Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Protection, or a related field with a current North Carolina Firefighter certification is required.  Must have knowledge of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal rules and regulations, and the training requirements for firefighters.  Four years of field experience as a certified firefighter or within Emergency management with knowledge of Fire, Emergency Management Services, and Law Enforcement as it relates to Emergency management is required.  A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

 A Master’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Protection, or a related field and an Emergency Management Technician (EMT)/Paramedic certification are preferred.  Three years of teaching or training experience and bilingual are preferred.

Position Description

The successful candidate will provide instruction in the Emergency Preparedness Technology programs providing students with the foundation of technical and professional knowledge needed for emergency services delivery in local and state government agencies.  Instruction involves both management and technical aspects of law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical services, and emergency planning.

Teaching responsibilities includes instruction in classroom and laboratory settings to introduce the student to various aspects of emergency preparedness, protection, and enforcement.  Emphasis is placed on the technical and administrative skills such as investigative principles, hazardous materials, codes, standards, emergency agency operations, and finance.

Additional duties include: Recruiting, advising students, job placement, participation in college/departmental meetings and committees, representation in the local and emergency management communities, coordinate all Emergency Management Technology program classes, assist in departmental operations and planning, and other duties as assigned.
