Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) and one (1) year of professional experience as a Cataloging Librarian, plus (1) year of professional experience managing an archive. Demonstrated knowledge of EAD, DACS and other archival standards; archival preservation principles and practices; and records management principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of archival theory, methodology, issues, and trends.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards and tools including AACR2/RDA, LCC, LCSH, MARC21, FRBR, OCLC WorldCat, and OCLC Connexion.
• Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories (ContentDM, MDID, Omeka, Digital Commons, DSpace, Fedora, etc.).
• Knowledge of standard archival policies and procedures for use, access, and preservation
• Knowledge of archival descriptive standards, especially DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core.
• Knowledge of archival reference tools and methods.
• Knowledge of records management issues and practices.
• Demonstrates competencies in using computers, office applications, and library and archives related software.
• Proficiency with web design, web authoring tools, and markup languages, especially HTML/XHTML and XML.
• Familiarity with North Carolina Community College System processes preferred.
Position Description
The Archive / Cataloging Librarian focuses on the creation, maintenance, and enrichment of metadata representing the library’s digital, physical, and virtual collections. Manages the ongoing work of the Cataloging Department and is responsible for the cataloging of materials in all formats, including print and digital resources. The Archive / Cataloging Librarian is also responsible for the development, management, and administration of the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Archives.
Librarians, like all library staff, have leadership responsibilities regardless of their position within Library Services. Includes activities such as contributing to goals and strategic library directions through active participation on committees, teams, and task forces and sharing expertise throughout the library to further library and College missions. Librarians participate in other department meetings, library, college, and professional activities, as appropriate.
