Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
Customer services work experience

Position Description
The Part-Time Veterans Affairs & Financial Aid Technician assists students with obtaining and maintaining Veterans Affairs educational benefits and/or federal, state, and institutional financial aid. The Veterans Affairs & Financial Aid Technician reports to the Lead Counselor, Financial Aid and has the following responsibilities:
Serves as the primary VA Certifying Official, assisting students with obtaining and maintaining educational benefits with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Utilizes the college's information system to obtain program, enrollment, and academic standing information; enters, maintains and updates information for students receiving VA educational benefits in the Veteran Affairs portal, VA-Once
Creates and maintains appropriate VA documentation for each student receiving VA education benefits in compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to program of study, previous college transcripts, attendance, progress and withdrawals
Responds to VA education benefit and financial aid inquiries by email, telephone or in person, providing information as requested
Processes certifications, terminations, additions, and adjustments to VA benefits in accordance with the timeline required by the VA
Audits Veterans' records regularly to assure compliance with VA rules and regulations and reports any potential audit exceptions to the supervisor
Provides technical assistance to students completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Assists financial aid applicants with the completion of forms required for student financial aid
Receives, opens, and routes financial aid and VA mail, composes correspondence, answers telephones, and responds to email
Processes internal and external data requests, including, but not limited to, financial aid award and income verification forms, and skip trace loan reports
Maintains and updates financial aid and VA documents, marketing materials, and website information
Maintains current knowledge of changes in Federal and State legislation affecting Veterans Affairs Programs; attends workshops and conferences, as appropriate
Confers regularly with and provides reports to the Lead Counselor, Director, Financial Aid and Business Office on the status of Veteran's Administration program implementation.
Performs other duties as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College.
