Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma;
2. Two years of full-time or equivalent experience working with justice-involved individuals;
3. Case management experience;
4. Outreach experience with diverse populations;
5. Certified Peer Support Specialist (or be willing to obtain);
6. Facilitating Career Development Certification (or be willing to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

1. Five years of full-time or equivalent experience working with justice-involved individuals;
2. Associate’s degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field;
3. Two years of full-time or equivalent experience in workforce development;
4. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.

Position Description

Job Description Summary

Helps to place A-B Tech students with justice-involvement in training opportunities and local jobs. Serves as liaison between A-B Tech and local industries for career facilitation of justice-involved individuals. Works with curriculum and continuing education to create career and educational pathways for A-B Tech students with justice-involvement, including work-based learning. Helps to develop, coordinate, maintain, and track educational and employment opportunities for clients. Completes reporting requirements as necessary for Mountain Area Workforce Development Board or other grant resources. Serves as a member of the Buncombe County Re-entry Council & partners with Justice Resource Center (JRC). Responsible for marketing workforce development and mentoring through various methods.

Duties

1. Works directly with clients to connect them with education opportunities at A-B Tech including GED/HSE services, occupational skills courses, Job Club services and curriculum courses.
2. Uses assigned case management system to track client progress toward established goals in case plan.
3. Meets monthly with clients in person, via phone or at group events to track progress.
4. Engages in special projects including the development of program reports as assigned.
5. Directs JRC referrals to appropriate workforce development resources.
6. Facilitates Information Sessions for JRC referral seeking to attain High School Equivalency (HSE).
7. Provides academic coaching and mentoring for JRC participants seeking education and credentials.
8. Provides light touch case management and resource referral for JRC and UpSkill clients.
9. Provides on-site supportive services and navigation for NC Works clients to increase referrals to NC Works.
10. Distributes available supportive service funds based on client needs and supervisor approval.
11. Enrolls clients through an HRD orientation class and vets candidates individually and by contact with A-B Tech instructors and administrators.
12. Conducts thorough needs analyses and career assessments/interest inventories to understand client needs.
13. Collaborates with Justice System to develop models of community college and JRC partnerships to support student success and the goals of the Division of Prison System (DPS).
14. Partners with A-B Tech programs and departments including Economic & Workforce Development/Continuing Education, Curriculum Programs, and Student Services.
15. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and Welcoming College statement.
16. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
