Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of progressive experience in telecommunications network management, analysis, or design, or traffic engineering; or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management; or Associate's degree in Electronics or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of networking related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Description
The College Network Engineer position provides enterprise level design, planning, development, implementation and life-cycle support strategies for the Local and Wide Area Network architectures across the NC Community College System (NCCCS). The NCCCS is comprised of 58 community colleges serving 100 counties across the State and supported by a System Office located in Raleigh, NC. The position works to empower colleges with the proper life-cycle management methods to maintain and troubleshoot Cisco switches, firewalls, and related systems and infrastructure. The position also helps colleges and the System Office to manage, monitor, and configure both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure solutions, Active Directory Services, DNS, DHCP, SQL, cloud storage, and other cloud based services. The position augments the limited network engineering skillset within the system through expert knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as by employing hands-on technical skills and leadership.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:
Primary skills and competencies include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of Cisco layer 2 and Layer 3 virtual switching, ASA, VPN, ISE (802.1x), LAN/WAN networking, VLAN management, Fiber Channel connectivity;
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of Cisco firewall management;
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP and Fiber Channel connectivity;
- Demonstrate strong knowledge configuring and monitoring network performance with Cisco and/or other Network Management software;
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Hyper-V Clustering, San Storage and VDI infrastructure;
- Working knowledge of Symantec NetBackup application or other Enterprise Backup Solutions;
- Working knowledge of Symantec NetBackup application or other Enterprise Backup Solutions;
- Knowledge of PCI compliance and requirements;
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve network and remote connectivity issues related to firewalls and site to site VPN connections;
- Ability to maintain IT contracts and communicate effectively with vendors;
- Ability to maintain good working relationship with staff and management;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to stakeholders, both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to effectively manage and complete projects within specified time constraints;
- Ability to assess policies and remediation analysis.
PREFERENCES:
- Demonstrate Experience with distributed architectures;
- Experience with process design software such as Visio;
- Experience in IT Procurement;
- Experience leveraging MS Azure, AWS, or other major cloud infrastructure to implement IT solutions.
