Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must have a current Basic Law Enforcement Certification or be capable of enrolling and successfully completing the Basic Law Enforcement training program. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with a record which allows applicant to be insurable under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy. The officer must be able to pass the required background check, medical and psychological exams, and drug screening. This position requires the candidate be certified through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission.
Preferred Qualifications
An Associate degree and law enforcement experience are preferred. Bilingual and National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.
Position Description
The primary responsibility is to maintain our existing students’ focus for a safe learning environment and enforce all state and federal laws ensuring the safety and security of the main campus and college property. Duties include foot patrol, securing campus buildings, and assisting students, visitors, and employees. The officer will enforce campus traffic regulations while maintaining a good working relationship with local law enforcement, students, visitors, and employees of the campus. This position requires the applicant work outside in both cold and heat conditions for extended periods of time and work a flexible changing schedule that includes nights, weekends, and on-call after hours and short notice, as needed. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
