  • Firefighter Level I and II
  • Fire Instructor II, Qualified

Education Minimum:  Associate's degree in a related field or Associate's Degree and an equivalent combination of experience in community college continuing education and certification.

Education Preferred:  Bachelor's degree in related field.
 
Experience Minimum:  Five to seven years fire-rescue experience.

Experience Preferred:  Community College experience teaching adults. 10 years of experience with Fire/Rescue Academy training. Five years of experience with fire department supervision at a Company Officer level, such as a Station Captain.

Position Description

Summary
Under direct supervision of the Department Chair of Fire Programs, the purpose of the position is to provide a comprehensive educational program committed to quality instruction and student success. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating classes with fire departments; preparing lesson plans and tests for Fire and Rescue training within the Continuing Education Division. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinates Fire and Rescue training, instructs students using a variety of instructional modalities.
  • Coordinates lesson plans, prepares lectures, writes course overviews and outlines.
  • Prepare tests, class projects, and case studies; grades papers, averages grades, prepares grade reports, and coordinates make-up tests.
  • Prepares and maintains security of OSFM testing material.
  • Delivers training equipment and supplies to fire departments, gathers outside project materials.
  • Counsels and advises students, conducts learning labs as needed, assists in registration.
  • Selects textbooks, videos and other instructional media, coordinates learning resource tools and technology.
  • Produces and maintains a variety of records and reports including up to date test files and instructional plans; prepares and submits reports as required by program accreditation agencies.
  • Works on assigned committees, attends meetings and school-wide events, and attends professional development conferences and seminars.
  • Conducts class visitations, evaluates in-service training classes as they are taught.
  • Recruits students for the fire/rescue academy and county training schools
  • Teaches in the fire/rescue academy, or assists other instructors as needed.
  • Provides leadership and management for the fire/rescue training academy.
  • Proctors in-service OSFM certification testing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Computer Skills
