Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
At least two years of related experience in a post-secondary educational setting or in governmental or private sector career and job placement services.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in education, business, human resources, or a related field.
At least two years of experience working with students in a community college or university setting.
Position Description
The Career Development Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating the activities and operations of the career development program within the Academic Advising Center and Student Services. This includes managing CFCC’s online job search service, hosting career fairs and trade shows, building relationships between Cape Fear Community College and local businesses and industry, and providing resources to help students with job placement and making the transition from college to career.
Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives, as well as policies and procedures, for Career Development in collaboration with the Academic Advising Center Director.
• Provide career development resources and advising to students as they progress through their academic programs of study.
• Administer career assessments and provide career exploration information to help students make career choices and prepare for their specific career.
• Advise students concerning job opportunities, letter and resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies.
• Pursue and promote recruitment relationships between business and industry employers and the college in an effort to enhance the job prospects for graduates.
• Partner with all CFCC divisions and departments including Curriculum, Continuing Education, and Student Services to place CFCC students into career opportunities.
• Manage, maintain, and promote CFCC’s online job search service.
• Host career fairs and trade shows in collaboration with college faculty and regional business and industry employers.
• Maintain current knowledge of employment trends and business expansions in local industries.
• Provide effective assistance to students in all aspects of employment skills development and in the screening and referral of students to employment opportunities; ensure compliance with college, federal and state procedures, and rules and regulations.
• Develop and present workshops and seminars for college students and the community on various employment topics, including resume preparation, job-seeking skills, employment skills and work ethic, interviewing and other related career development topics.
• Monitor status of all college graduates; prepare regular informational and statistical reports regarding job placement success.
• Coordinate the development of career development brochures, website, and newsletter; develop specialized documents on job search skills; provide social media content to appropriate sites as it relates to career development.
• Maintain records and assist in developing reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness, maintain records for student reference; prepare statistical reports as needed by the Director or other college departments.
• Assist in the activities and day-to-day operation of the Academic Advising Center, including providing career development training and resources to Academic Advisors so career development is integrated into academic advising sessions; assist with support coverage, as needed, by greeting and checking-in students, and assist with new student orientation, registration and other special events.
• Support the mission of the Academic Advising Center by providing academic advising and registration assistance to students, as needed.
