Position Description
Serve as the Coordinator of Work-Based Learning for all Work-Based Learning CE and CU courses, Pre-apprenticeships and Apprenticeships. advise WBL and Apprenticeship students, stay current with curriculum changes, assist faculty with advisement issues, and assist with recruitment and retention initiatives. This position requires day, evening, and occasional weekend hours and travel.
- Work-Based Learning
- Serve as the coordinator of the College’s Work-Based Learning (WBL) for CE and CU.
- Assist Continuing Education and Academic Affairs to ensure the student is matched to an appropriate work-based learning opportunity related to their program of study; monitor the internship providing support and guidance to the student, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
- Provide orientation for all WBL-enrolled students.
- Assist Continuing Education and Academic Affairs in the promotion of Work-Based Learning opportunities.
- Maintain student files, in compliance with WBL (Section 20) Curriculum Procedures Reference Manual and 1D SBCCC 300.10.
- Verify time spent by students in WBL (per timesheets).
- Visit work site at least once per term.
- Evaluate the student’s performance in the course and post the appropriate grade.
- Facilitate support services as needed.
- Apprenticeships/Pre-Apprenticeships
- Serve as the coordinator of the College’s Apprenticeship programs including pre-apprenticeships.
- Assist with all prospective companies to determine current needs and if the Apprenticeship Cleveland program would be an appropriate program for those companies; handle communication with the ApprenticeshipNC office regarding the apprentices including new apprentice registration forms and agreements, application for apprentices’ completion, and any changes to the apprentices’ status.
- Maintain contact with all member companies to ensure the program standards are met and any new apprentice hiring needs are being addressed.
- Coordinate with member companies and College departments regarding sponsorship of apprentices each semester.
- Coordinate with member companies on scheduling prospective apprentice/student meetings and signing ceremonies.
- Maintain student records in accordance with NC State Statue 115D-11.5 Article 1A.
- Assist with “onboarding” meetings of new apprentices with company representatives.
- Meet with students each semester to discuss academic progress.
- Facilitate support services as needed.
- Provide mentor or assigned company representative with an update on the apprentice’s grades, attendance, and overall academic progress at least once per semester.
- Market, secure faculty, order supplies, and coordinate summer enrichment camps.
- Assist Continuing Education and Academic Affairs with activities and events, but not limited to, Taste of Industry, Making it Work, job fairs, recruitment, registration, auditing, etc.
- Participate in professional and staff development opportunities.
- Actively participate in Continuing Education planning, evaluation, and program review.
- Serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
