Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Horticulture, Agri-business, Greenhouse Production or a related field
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
- Ability to provide guidance and advice regarding plant maintenance procedures, including integrated pest management programs, pest scouting and determination of appropriate biological and chemical pest control measures, and direct potting mix preparation.
- Experience monitoring of greenhouse environment including heating, cooling, ventilating and lighting
- Current North Carolina driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of prior teaching experience in a classroom/lab setting
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Horticulture curriculum program
Position Description
This part-time position works with the Career College program. Career College is a two-year post-secondary certificate program through Workforce Development. This entry-level program develops reading, math, computer skills along with participation in a hands-on lab or practicum experience within a specific program of study. The target student population is persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Example of Duties:
- Teaches assigned courses to meet program needs
- Prepares varied instruction to meet the educational needs of the student population
- Ability to identify, develop and implement projects and hands-on tasks to enhance student’s learning
- Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback
- Prepare lesson plans, course overviews, and course syllabi
- Uses and promotes appropriate technology (Moodle) to enhance student learning
- Enhance learning through field trips and off campus educational activities

Supervision
- The position reports to the Career College Coordinator and works in conjunction with the Horticulture curriculum program and faculty.
Normal Work Schedule
- Monday- Thursday: 9am- 11:30am and Friday: 9am-12noon (year 1)
- Monday-Thursday: 12:30pm-3:30pm (year 2)
