Minimum Qualifications
The North Carolina Early Childhood Credential is preferred or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Enrollment in an Early Childhood program of study is required if the minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education has not been earned at the time of hire. First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred, but if not current at hire, must be completed within 6 weeks from the start date.
*If the NC Early Childhood Credential is not presented at the time of hire, the applicant must be willing to enroll in Intro to Early Childhood Education (EDU 119), within 6 months of hire and apply for the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential immediately upon successful completion of the course, OR apply for equivalency within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
The North Carolina Early Childhood Credential is preferred. An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred. Three years of experience with children in a child care setting is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual are preferred.
Position Description
The Child Care Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing the daily program of developmentally appropriate practices and activities for a group of children. Duties include identifying each child's capabilities and needs and assuring the welfare, health, and safety of the children in the group. The Assistant Teacher will attend pre-service and in-service training as required; understand and maintain compliance with North Carolina Child Care Requirements; and all other duties as assigned by the center Director. The Child Care Center Assistant Teacher will report directly to the Wayne Community College Child Care Center Director.
