Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field is required. Must have five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the administration of Federal and State financial aid and Veteran Affairs (VA) programs. Knowledge of Title IV and VA Education Benefits regulations and all aspects of financial aid, exemplary customer service skills, and a commitment to service, excellence, diversity, and equity is essential. Must have experience with Microsoft Office products and possess considerable good judgment based upon a thorough knowledge of Federal and State Regulations for Financial Aid. Experience in personnel management and good communication skills to serve a diverse population of students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public is required. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a driving record sufficient to be covered under the Wayne Community College auto policy is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s Degree is preferred. Experience with the Ellucian Colleague system is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual are preferred.
Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Services is to direct all aspects relative to the financial aid/veteran services office. The Director will be responsible for ensuring the administration of Federal Title IV student assistance programs in compliance with current federal regulations; North Carolina state assistance programs in accordance to the regulations further governing these programs; and administering scholarships from outside sources according to guidelines and in accordance to institutional policy. The Director will: serve as a VA School Certifying Official; directly supervise financial aid office staff; and work directly with the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Student Services to optimize office efficiency, streamline processes and promote positive relations with internal and external constituencies. The Director will prepare and submit federal, state, and institutionally required reports; monitor work-study, child-care, and all other funds under Financial Aid; and provide progression reports to the AVP of Student Services in direct relation to financial aid funding and for enrollment purposes. The Director will stay current on all related regulations, attend required conferences or workshops associated with financial aid and VA, and will perform all other duties as assigned by the AVP of Student Services.
