Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a Mathematics related field is required.
OR
Bachelor's degree with 18 semester hours in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a Mathematics related field is required.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Education and three years' teaching experience in Mathematics or graduate training in remedial education is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:   Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated machines including telephone, computer, copier, calculator, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, etc. for brief periods of time.   Must be able to lift weights of up to fifty pounds.

 

Data Conception:   Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

 

Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes the giving of assignments and instructions to assistants, etc.  Includes the giving and receiving of information and instructions from the President.

Verbal Aptitude:   Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.

Knowledge of Job:  Must be able to effectively communicate with people from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds. Must be able to generate reports and presentations using various types of computer programs, and word processing applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. Must be able to integrate the learning style preferences of SSSP participants in the plan for the delivery of instructions. Must have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Quality of Work:  Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities.  Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.  Maintains

high quality communication and interaction with all College departments and divisions, co-workers and the public.

Organizing:  Organizes own work and that of subordinate staff well.  Ensures that staff members know what results are expected of them and that they are regularly and appropriately informed of all College and Administrative Services Operations' matters affecting them and/or of concern to them.

Staffing:  Works with the Personnel Department to select and recommend employment of personnel for the Administrative Services Operations who are qualified both technically and philosophically to meet the needs of the Administrative Services Operations and College.  Personally directs the development and training of departmental managers in order to  ensure that  they are properly inducted, oriented and trained.

Leading: Provides a work environment which encourages clear and open communications. Has a clear and comprehensive understanding of the principles of effective leadership and how such principles are to be applied.  Provides adequate feed‑back to administrative services managers so that they know whether their  performance levels are satisfactory.  Commends and rewards employees for outstanding performance yet does not hesitate to take disciplinary action when necessary.  Exercises enthusiasm in influencing and guiding others toward the achievement of College goals and objectives.

Policy Formulation:  Keeps abreast of changes in operating philosophies and policies of the College and continually reviews Administrative Services Operations' policies in order to ensure that any changes in College philosophy or practice are appropriately incorporated.  Also understands the relationship of operating policies and practices with morale and performance of all institutional personnel.  Works to see that established policies enhance same.

 

Position Description

This position is 50% federally funded and 50% State Funded. Two- three years’ experience working with low income/first generation and disabled students; excellent writing and oral communication skills. Demonstrated mastery in mathematical concepts in and familiarity with computer-aided math is highly desired. In addition, this position will provide support to enhance campus climate, promote social justice, and inclusion with a specific focus on first generation student success. Furthermore, the incumbent will identify and address barriers to student success and implement opportunities for excellence.  This position will support TRiO: Student Support Services and the College at large by planning programs/events, coordinating activities and projects in an effort to advance outcomes and experiences of first generation college students. Reports to the Director, TRiO Programs.

 

 Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Support Services

  • Ability to effectively tutor participants in assigned subject(s) Math and English
  • Tutor and advise participants through online and in person platforms
  • Collaborate with a team of student support services professionals to implement and promote the overall mission of the program
  • Develop and facilitate academic workshops; Coordinating and participating in TRiO sponsored events as assigned
  • Serve as liaison between the SSS Project and PCC Dev Math/Math department faculty
  • Monitor the progress of each SSS participant receiving tutorial services
  • Assist the Reading/English Specialist to coordinate the activity of the Academic Lab
  • Develop a deep understanding of assessment development materials (standards, style guides, etc.) project history, study protocols and their application. 
  • Demonstrate consistency in applying study protocols, such as item-to-standard alignment consistency and/or standard-to-item alignment consistency.
  • Generate records according to grant guidelines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, often ambitious/demanding environment while maintaining agreed upon work schedules and deliverables. 
  • Other tasks a deemed necessary by Program Director.

Developmental Math

  • Teach two sections of developmental math per academic year (fall and spring). Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the subjects he or she teaches.
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories of the field or discipline taught.
  • Connect the subject matter with related fields.
  • Employ equitable teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students and maximize student learning outcomes
  • Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, attending professional meetings, conferences and/or workshops
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse needs of students.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.

First Generation

  • Ability to provide high-touch outreach, interaction and student development with first-generation students. 
  • Promote and organize educational opportunities, mentorship, social interaction, health and wellness, and cultural events. 
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders who serve first generation college students. 
  • Act as a liaison to instructors, administrators and other staff regarding culture, heritage and background of first generation students and their families. 
  • Serve as Co-Chair of the First-Gen Forward Development Committee
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop a positive climate that leads to educational equity.
  • Provide detailed data-collection, record keeping and reporting on all first generation programming and academic outcomes.
