Position Description
Summary
Maintains equipment as needed, constructs and maintains fire training props under the supervision of the Director of Fire Programs by performing the following duties.
Knowledge & Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Performs inventory and inspection of all equipment used for fire and rescue training both periodically and after each use.
- Establishes and maintains records on the use, care, and maintenance of firefighting equipment in accordance with national standards and generally accepted industry practices.
- Establishes and maintains records on the use, care, and maintenance of technical rescue equipment including but not limited to: rope, struts, chains, hydraulic and pneumatic rescue equipment, hoses, gauges, and pressurized air cylinders equipment in accordance with national standards and generally accepted industry practices.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspections on the fire truck to ensure safe and proper working condition, and compliance with national standards and applicable motor vehicle laws.
- Maintains and inspects Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, cylinders, and refilling station in accordance with NFPA standards and OSHA regulations.
- Maintains and repairs equipment as needed; makes recommendations regarding equipment servicing, and new equipment needs to the Director of Fire Programs.
- Ascertains the technical requirements for all fire and rescue training classes from the Director of Fire and Rescue Training and makes sure these needs are met.
- Assists with construction, design, and maintenance of training props as needed at the direction of the Director of Fire Programs.
- Interpretation and application of NFPA standards and OSHA regulations
- Maintains a safe working and learning environment, reports all deficiencies to the Director of Fire Programs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Minimum: North Carolina Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Fire Instructor I certifications.
- North Carolina Driver / Operator Pumps, and Qualified Fire Instructor II preferred
