Minimum Qualifications
- A Masters degree in Nursing with 2-years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
- A current RN license.
- Applicants must either meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing Teaching & Learning Requirement (if previously employed in a nursing educational program) or have an approved plan to do so.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program.
- Previous teaching experience in a nursing educational program.
- Previous experience as an LPN.
Position Description
Under the supervision of the Program Head and/or Department Chair of Nursing and the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, the nursing instructor is responsible for teaching online, in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. The instructor will provide effective instruction in all classes by implementing active learning strategies and focusing on student learning outcomes. The instructor will also serve as a nursing advisor to currently enrolled students and will participate on college and departmental committees.
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with Program Head and/or Department Chair regarding course assignment per semester.
- Create and maintain course documents as appropriate for assigned content such as online instruction, class sessions, learning activities, exams, lab sessions, clinical guidelines, etc. Course documents must be included in the course notebook each semester.
- Conduct class, lab, and clinical according to established meeting patterns. Use instructional methods to support online teaching.
- Foster a quality teaching and learning environment that supports equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students.
- Notify Program Head and/or Department Chair of any changes to class, lab and/or clinical days and/or times.
- Utilize Moodle as appropriate per course design (enhanced, hybrid or online) and VGCC student email to communicate with students.
- Provide feedback to students regarding course progression.
- Serve as a nursing faculty advisor to students enrolled in a nursing program.
- Record student attendance in accordance with semester deadlines.
- Complete student assessments (Weekly Feedback Tool, Lab Skills Check-off sheets, Final Clinical Evaluation, etc.) and collaborate with Program Head and/or Department Chair if plans of action are needed.
- Inform Program Head and/or Department Chair of any student issues (academic, attendance, behavior, cheating, plagiarism) as soon as possible.
- Assess student learning outcomes and demonstrate the use of the results to make improvements to course/program.
- Maintain suitable class records which show student hours, academic progress, student grading systems, etc.
- Recommend adoption or discontinuance of textbooks and/or other instructional supplies and equipment to the Program Head and/or Department Chair.
- Recommend new books, magazines, materials and equipment for use in the LRC to Program Head and/or Department Chair (as appropriate).
- Regularly attend and participate in scheduled course/program/department meetings.
- Engage in professional development, program and college specific.
- Experiment with new, innovative teaching techniques.
- Demonstrate proficiency in technology utilization as required in the SimLab, online teaching, and clinical sites, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Head and/or Department Chair or Dean.
