•Current DANB Certification
•Current CPR Certification
•Minimum of 3 years work experience as a chairside dental assistant
•Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in educational/training environments
•Computer literate

Position Description
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Provide effective instruction and create an optimum learning environment for all students. Utilize supplemental materials and activities to enhance classroom and laboratory instruction. Evaluate student performance utilizing effective evaluations to assess student performance in the classroom, laboratory, and clinic.
Facilitate a variety of course formats to included classroom and laboratory instruction, hybrid, online, and live online.
Develop, prepare, and teach dental assisting courses. Faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of dental assisting subjects, with primary responsibility to evening classes. May include some daytime in instruction and clinical supervision.
Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, facilitating open lab, providing information about additional resources outside of class and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success. Refer students to campus and community resources to develop strategies for success.
Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs, participating in program advisory committees, attending departmental meetings, and serving as backup for other faculty members.
Promote the success of the college by participating in standing committees and following college professional and ethical guidelines.
Maintain teaching and work environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Retain professional status by participating in required professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and DANB credentials required by college and program accreditation.
Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.
Supervise evening cohorts for 1st and 2nd year students, requiring travel to UNC Adams School of Dentistry for clinical supervision. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:Prepare and teach departmental courses to include: learning centered lesson plans, a variety of teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles.
•Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support material, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
•Incorporate current technology in the classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments
•Assess student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
•Assist the department head in maintaining an accurate inventory of program supplies.
•Promote student success by addressing student concerns in a timely manner and promoting retention by assisting students with learning strategies to promote success
•Recruitment and advising of students
•Maintenance of classroom, laboratory, and clinical areas; to include upkeep of assigned equipment
•Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
•Assisting in student club activities
•Carry out other duties as assigned

Supervision:
The position reports to the Department Head of Dental Assisting and will work in conjunction with the curriculum program.
Work Schedule:
Evening Program instruction requiring 3 to 4 evenings on campus a week and some daytime hours are required to meet faculty load minimum and clinical instruction.
