Education
Clinical coordinator must possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies. (NCCA.)
Knowledge and Skills
Clinical coordinator must have a minimum total of three years’ experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology or a combination of both within the past five years.
Licensing Requirement
Certified Surgical Technologist credential by the NCCA.
Valid NC driver's license.

Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose
The clinical coordinator is responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the surgical technology program. Must be available to work the nine-month academic year plus one summer session.
Classification
Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Make sure clinical courses are up-to-date, abreast of technology, and in compliance with state and national accreditation standards.
- Initiate clinical updates and revisions.
- Assist in course offerings and schedules.
- Assist in budget formation/control/expenditures for:
- Travel (local &/or overnight)
- Supplies
- Equipment
- Learning Resource Center (LRC) holdings
- Inventory equipment and supplies.
- Assist in maintaining advisory committee to include:
- Recommend membership
- Hold annual meetings
- Maintain records
- Assist in recruiting and training qualified instructors and students.
- Complete or assist with program reports, including but not limited to, annual program review, outcomes assessment, and advanced planning document.
- Assist program coordinator in establishing/maintaining accreditation standards to include (if appropriate):
- Self-study
- Site visits
- Annual reports
- Maintain teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy
- Serve on college and division committees
- Create and monitor the clinical or CO-OP schedules.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned. As clinical coordinator, serve as liaison between Southwestern Community College and the clinical education sites and be responsible for the establishment of clinical sites and clinical faculty standards under the direction of the program director. Plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical facility.

Working Conditions and Environment
The clinical coordinator should pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade his/her professional instruction and administrative capabilities.

Able to operate and demonstrate all equipment required to perform the duties of a surgical technologist.
