Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or a GED, with related life experience is required. An Associates’ Degree in a Human Services/Social Science field with related life experience is preferred. Must have a valid NC Drivers' License, unexpired, or the ability to get a license within one month after starting work. If offered the position, a required drug screening and background check will be performed before employment. Individuals who have had life-experience as a juvenile and has successfully overcome negative Justice related events are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be judged eligible to work with minors.

Knowledge of Job: Has considerable knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of Pitt Community College and of departmental practices as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Re-Entry Youth Participant Navigator. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology, principles, and methods utilized within the department. Has working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, and of the principles and practices of records maintenance/management. Knows how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, computer operations, equipment needs, policies, etc., as they pertain to departmental operations and activities. Is able to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, students, faculty, the general public, and all other groups involved in the activities of the department. Is able to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers and related software programs. Is able to perform typing and data entry accurately and with appropriate speed.

Position Description

The Position of the Youth Participant Navigator provides support and administrative oversight for participant activities. The Youth Participant Navigator works to help the participants to transition into the program and overcome barriers to success. The Youth Participant Navigator reports administratively to the Case Manager for the Youth Program under the auspices of a grant provided by the Governor’s Crime Commission.

Works in conjunction with the Case Manager and helps to coordinate the work of mentor volunteers who work with participants, making sure that they have been vetted and have all of their paperwork in order. 

 

Conducts site visits and will be accessible during Life Class sessions when participants are on campus. 

 

Works to build appropriate rapport with participants as a way of helping them to navigate the barriers that have or may cause them to become negatively Justice Involved. 

 

Helps participants to prioritize elements in their lives that will be helpful in gaining employment or enrolling in school. 

 

Documents activities and interaction with participants and submits weekly progress reports to the Case Manager. 

 

Works with various agencies and stakeholders on behalf of the participants to create a network of advocacy resources for the program in general and the participants specifically. 

 

Attends meetings and events necessary for participant and programmatic success. 

 

Interacts with Justice related entities on behalf of the program and its participants. 

 

Plans presentations and events to emphasize the success and progress of participants individually and collectively.

 

Performs all other duties related to the job, as assigned.
