Required:
Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in counseling, education, psychology, or closely related field.
Two years’ experience providing counseling and/or career services within higher education or other employment setting.
Knowledge of various career development tools.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Excellent human relations, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Intermediate proficiency and knowledge of MS Office products.
Experience managing multiple activities at once and prioritizing effectively.
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

WHAT YOU'LL DO ON A TYPICAL DAY:
The Career Development Counselor provides specialized individual and group career counseling in an effort to assist students in developing the competencies required to become informed about the choice of major, career options, and opportunities related to their personal and professional objectives, and to make informed decisions concerning career goals.
The Career Development Counselor reports to the Director, Career Development and has the following responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group career counseling which may include administering and interpreting career assessments to help students make informed career and program of study decisions.
- Maintain a general knowledge and understanding of the related professions represented by DCCC programs of study, maintaining familiarity with education, training, and career opportunities and employer expectations.
- Coordinate, manage and deliver career exploration activities for new students as part of regular Enrollment Information Sessions online and in person on both the main campus and the Davie campus.
- Develop and execute campus programming activities, events and requests for classroom presentations that engage students in their educational experience relevant to career and job preparation and choices.
- Provide individual and group career counseling, classroom workshops and campus activities to engage students on the Davie Campus.
- Train and supervise student workers to assist with Enrollment Information Sessions.
- Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Collaborate with the college’s recruiter to assist with career exploration activities for high school students engaged in Career and College Promise.
- Assist students in developing competencies related to job search methods; resume building, interview preparation, and workplace professionalism through individual career counseling and classroom presentations and activities.
- Conduct and use labor market resources to research and analyze current and future employment trends in various industries and share information with faculty, staff and students as needed.
- Participate in monthly faculty meetings to enhance knowledge of the curriculum and professional field of study.
- Manage social media pages including Facebook and Instagram to communicate department information and events.
- Maintain detailed online career counseling notes and records.
- Refer students to appropriate campus and community services.
- Participate in college committees and work groups as needed.
- Participate in professional development activities both on and off campus.
- Work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
