Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Three years of relevant industry experience with administrative and clinical procedures routinely performed by phlebotomists/EKG Techs.

 

  • Post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience in Medical topics using any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Greater than three years of relevant industry experience with administrative and clinical procedures related to Phlebotomy and Cardiovascular Technicians.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes. 
  • Experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
  • AHA CPR Instructor certified.
  • Certified EKG Technician/ASCP Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Position Description

This is a full-time, 12-month position in the Workforce Development and Community Education division reporting to the Director, Health Occupations and Nurse Aide Training. Wilkes Community College (WCC) is looking for an energetic, positive, and organized person to plan and organize all instructional activities of Health Occupations programming within the division.  The instructor will teach a variety of health occupation classes such as phlebotomy, cardiovascular technician, CPR, and HealthCare Career Readiness.  The instructor will work with a variety of clinical agencies, instructors, college departments, and students.

Job duties will include:

  1. Coordinate and instruct assigned health occupations courses. 
  2. Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided. 
  3. Prepare for classes and clinical sites assigned and providing written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. 
  4. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical resources of the teaching site, and consistent with student needs/capabilities. 
  5. Encourage students to meet acceptable performance standards as defined in course syllabi and by state guidelines. 
  6. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, patients, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  7. Evaluate student progress on a continuing basis, reporting in writing at designated times. 
  8. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students concerning their progress. 
  9. Maintain accurate and auditable records of student attendance and performance as required by law, DHSR, and school policy. 
  10. Assist in upholding and enforcing DHSR, college policy, and procedure. 
  11. Prepare course application forms and maintains student enrollment and test records and maintains cooperative relationships with college staff and with clinical site staff. 
  12. Promote the mission, philosophy, instructional goals, and objectives of WCC. 
  13.  Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
