Position Description
Senior Librarian, Assessment and Instruction position available in Library Services located on Central Campus.

The Library will be opening a new state-of-the-art Central Campus Library in spring 2022. The new library supports instruction with two (2) flexible classrooms, a faculty hub, and space for consultations and one-on-one research appointments with librarians. Our new technology sandbox/makerspace with video and audio recording studios will offer additional opportunities for library instruction and support of student assignments.
The Senior Librarian for Assessment and Instruction coordinates the Library's information literacy and instruction program, with a focus on assessment of CPCC's instructional model. That focus will encompass creating and coordinating an assessment program that includes qualitative, and usability practices to promote a data-informed approach to achieving goals such as documenting the impact of Central Piedmont's information literacy instruction model on student learning. This position:
* Plans, develops, and teaches library and information literacy instruction to a diverse student population.
* Provides instructional support through chat, embedded librarianship, one-on-one appointments, and classroom instruction.
* Assists in training other library staff in classroom instruction, embedded librarianship, and one-on-one appointments.
* Assesses library instruction efforts.
General Function
This position coordinates the Library’s information literacy and instruction program, with a focus on assessment of CPCC’s instructional model. That focus will encompass creating and coordinating an assessment program that includes quantitative, qualitative, and usability practices to promote a data-informed approach to achieving goals such as documenting the impact of Central Piedmont’s information literacy instruction model on student learning. Additionally, this position ensures consistency, monitors effectiveness, and engages in dialogue with librarians, faculty, and students regarding instruction and research support at all campuses. This position participates with other librarians in providing instruction and research services, liaising to assigned departments, assists in collection maintenance, and other responsibilities as assigned. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Instructional and Research Services. The position also supervises an instruction librarian and E-Learning Librarian.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
I. Mastery of Subject Matter
a, Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of library and information science.
b. Displays an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of library and information science.
c. Connects the subject matter with related fields and the college curriculum.
d. Stays current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations resource sharing organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops.
e. Exhibits proficiency with Office and Google products, integrated library systems, and web-based technologies, with a demonstrated ability to both enhance existing and create new services using technology.
II. Assessment
a. Coordinates integration of assessment and evidence-based decision making in Instructional and Research Services.
b. Works with Assistant Director to measure departmental goals, evaluate the effectiveness of the library instruction program, and demonstrate impact on student learning to appropriate stakeholders.
c. Develops and, with support from relevant staff, implements assessment initiatives mapped to appropriate instructional standards and outcomes.
d. Takes a leadership role in library-wide assessment efforts.
e. Collaborates on assessment projects across the College that display library impact.
f. Analyzes and reports relevant quantitative and qualitative data gathered from various sources in the library and across the College.
g. Explores and communicates new assessment methods and stays current in instructional assessment strategies and techniques.
III. Instruction
a. Plans, develops, and teaches library and information literacy instruction to a diverse student population.
b. Provides instructional support through chat, embedded librarianship, one-on-one appointments, and classroom instruction.
c. Collaborates with faculty in the design and delivery of information literacy instruction.
d. Assists in training other library staff in classroom instruction, embedded librarianship, chat, and one-on-one appointments.
e. Stays current in trends and best practices in library instruction to deliver the highest quality.
f. Creates a framework for reflective instructional practices and a continuously improving instruction program.
g. Stays current with best practices and innovations in library instruction and assessment.
IV. Project and Departmental Management
a. Works with Assistant Director and Instructional and Research Services team to develop departmental goals, maintain consistency of library instruction program, and determine feasibility of new instructional support services.
b. Scopes, plans, and manages multiple projects simultaneously.
c. Communicates project priorities and goals with project stakeholders, developers, and library-wide staff.
d. Creates and maintains project and process documentation.
e. Supervises and develops Instruction Librarian and E-Learning Librarian; monitors performance, reviews completed assignments, including development and administration of Individual Development Plan process.
V. Public Service Responsibilities
a. Provides high-quality reference services to students, faculty, and staff; assists patrons with complex inquiries, requests, and projects requiring independent judgment and in-depth knowledge in interpreting policies and procedures.
b. Staffs service desks and provides effective circulation services, including reserves and study room scheduling.
c. Trains students, faculty, and staff in the use of library equipment and resources.
d. Develops a working knowledge of all public service points and an in-depth knowledge in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
VI. Collection Development Responsibilities
a. Creates and places orders of library materials in multiple formats for assigned area(s) of library collection.
b. Develops subject resources in assigned areas and assists in deselection of library materials.
c. Collaborates with departmental faculty to assess effectiveness and strength of collection in assigned subject disciplines.
d. Participates in program accreditation as necessary.
VII. Technical Services Responsibilities
a. Communicates with Technical Services staff about issues or abnormalities involving cataloging records, electronic holdings, integrated library systems, and library web site.
VIII. Support of College Policies and Procedures
a. Provides library services as assigned in a multi-campus environment.
b. Interprets and enforces library and college policies and procedures.
c. Maintains confidentiality of student information according to current state and federal law.
d. Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials.
IX. Participation in College and Division Activities
a. Participates in committees, meetings, and events required by the college and library administrators.
b. Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college and library administrators.
c. Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
d. Provides leadership to library staff.
e. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or on a team.
X. Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
