- Previous work with military students and their families or time served in a US Military Branch

Position Description
Job Description
The Director of Student Life, Engagement, and Leadership (DSLEL) is a full-time, 12-month position located on both the OCH/LLP Campuses in Monroe and Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the DSLEL ensures diverse, equitable, and inclusive student life programming. The DSLEL is responsible for creating, implementing, and assessing a robust student life and co-curricular student experience through campus activities and events, campus-community engagement and enrichment, and student leadership development. In addition, the DSLEL ensures all students find a sense of belonging and connection to SPCC beyond the classroom.
Job Duties
- Provide strategic and operational oversight of all aspects of Student Life, Engagement, and Leadership while providing direct supervision of staff.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of SLEL programs and services that are inclusive and support a diverse student body.
- Ensure that all direct and indirect SLEL programmatic efforts align with the mission and goals of SPCC, Student Affairs, and the department itself, directing and executing major, large-scale programs and campus-wide events as needed.
- Regularly assess the impact of the department’s efforts on student engagement, development, and success.
- Serve as a responsible fiscal agent of SPCC while managing department and student groups/organizations budgets, allocating resources appropriately, and spending Student Fee Revenue appropriately.
- Cultivate opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with other SPCC departments to create mutually beneficial collaborations with the Office of Student Life, Engagement, and Leadership-specific programs and student groups/organizations.
- Develop and implement opportunities for students to participate in sports and intellectual team activities (i.e., intramural sports, debate team, Skills USA, etc.)
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and oversight of the Student Government Associate Association (SGA).
- Cultivate leadership development opportunities for students across all campuses.
- Collaborate with SGA and faculty to develop a robust selection of student clubs and organizations that focus on supporting the needs and interests of all students at SPCC. In addition, promote and support campus clubs and organizations, including faculty advisor training and new club orientation.
- Develop, implement, and direct student life programming to support various student populations (i.e., Military-Affiliated Students, LGBTQ Students, minority or historically underserved populations, etc.).
- Effectively manage the development of a vision and mission aligned with the College’s mission and vision
- Collaborate with college leaders in admission, financial aid, advising, and academics to enhance students’ experience at SPCC.
- Serve as SPCC’s liaison for military affairs and services in the community and to off-campus stakeholders.
- Provide training for faculty and staff on serving various student populations (i.e., military students, LGBTQ, minorities, etc.)
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities, and socioeconomic levels
- Demonstrate a positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions, and managing projects.
- Demonstrate personal and professional integrity, which communicates a sense of mission, leadership, and ability to self-start.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs
