Position Description
In support of the overall Learning College, the Developmental English Instructor is responsible for providing a quality learning experience for all the College students. The instructor will teach Developmental English courses; provide high quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations; perform instructional-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the College; the instructor will also demonstrate a commitment to the Learning College concept, assessment, cooperative learning, and student advising.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and present relevant course content for all courses assigned
- Utilize active learning methods, technology, and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course
- Be responsible for program coordination, curriculum development, and review as Lead Developmental English Instructor, including such duties as assisting the director with budgeting, assessing the program, mentoring and evaluating adjunct faculty, and assisting with scheduling and faculty assignments including interdepartmental requests
- Serve as the Writing Center Coordinator including hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating consultants, scheduling Center hours, and assessing the program
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Learning College initiative
- Post and maintain office hours for student appointments
- Be accessible to students and supportive of their learning goals
- Commit to a team spirit within the Academic Development department and the campus community
- Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data
- Serve as an academic advisor and assist in the registration process
- Maintain prompt communication with supervisor
- Participate in College committees and/or other college-wide activities as elected or assigned
- Perform expectations of a faculty member as stated in the Full Time Faculty Job Description
