Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering or other related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years progressive experience in the field of information technology; or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years progressive experience in the field of information technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  The mission of the North Carolina Community College System is to open the door to high-quality, accessible educational opportunities that minimize barriers to post-secondary education, maximize student success, develop a globally and multi-culturally competent workforce, and improve the lives and well-being of individuals by providing:

  • Education, training and retraining for the workforce including basic skills and literacy education, occupational and pre-baccalaureate programs.
  • Support for economic development through services to and in partnership with business and industry and in collaboration with the University of North Carolina System and private colleges and universities.
  • Services to communities and individuals which improve the quality of life.

 

The Technology Solutions and Distance Learning Division supports this mission by providing technical support for the Enterprise Resource Planning systems configured to deliver educational services for community college students, staff, faculty, employers, and the System Office.

The Associate Vice President, Service Management & Strategy (AVP-SM&S) oversees multiple system-wide functions including technology strategy development, refinement, and implementation, functional and technical governance, performance management, strategic demand and change management, communications, and creating effective methods for the delivery of technology solutions.

 

The position ensures the Technology Solutions & Distance Learning Division develops and delivers reasonable and achievable solutions using appropriate strategy and governance through organizational and operational model development and performance management.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated managerial experience with diverse teams of local and remote team members supporting complex and critical enterprise applications
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading teams of technology and business staff to successful completion of enterprise projects
  • Able to collaborate effectively with others in the project team, delegate tasks, mitigate risks, and manage projects to successful completion
  • Experience interacting with customers and/or vendors to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Able to set/adjust priorities and adapt to unanticipated changes
  • Experience working independently and managing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Able to translate advanced technical issues into understandable terms for business champions and non-technical users
  • Demonstrated work experience in the development, maintenance, and delivery of technical documentation
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience with Project Management and managing complex projects involving software proof of concepts, configurations, implementations, and/or migrations
  • Vendor and contract management experience
  • Experience working in Higher Education
