Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution is required 
  • Five years of educational experience in a community college, university, or high school setting is preferred 
  • Extensive knowledge of basic skills and curriculum admissions processes is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum programs, pre/co-requisites, and admissions processes is preferred
  • Colleague Software experience and experience using instructional technologies is preferred
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail 
  • Good communication skills

Position Description

The Tutorial Lab & RISE Transition Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for placement of students under the RISE model for students who are not placed as part of the standard admissions process, while also supporting a campus-wide peer-tutor program by screening and hiring student tutors and arranging for student-tutor coverage in a stand-alone learning lab and with the College's online tutoring services. This individual will implement and facilitate admissions processes for incoming students to enter curriculum gateway math and English courses or to enter transitional studies for pre-gateway math and English instruction while providing administrative services to support the Tutorial Lab that include, but are not limited to, scheduling of student help, timesheet processing, auditing records, reports, ordering supplies, and reporting budget needs. This individual must possess extensive knowledge of the North Carolina Community College System and have a strong working knowledge of Transitional and Career Studies and curriculum course requirements, CCP/CTE pathways, innovative high school initiatives, and authorized assessment tools for multi-divisional placement.

The duties of the Tutorial Lab & RISE Transition Coordinator include, but are not limited to:      
 
RISE Transition and Testing Duties:

  • Act as a liaison between curriculum and Transitional and Career Studies for the purpose of identifying gateway math and English requirements under the RISE model
  • Apply RISE placement criteria in order to identify students' eligibility to enroll in curriculum and/or transition courses
  • Track all student records utilized in the admissions process to identify students requiring alternate placement, schedule testing, enter test scores, and notify Admissions of placement
  • Monitor and maintain a collaborative platform tracking students' progress through transitions courses and intervene when needed
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Office in assisting with decisions regarding student placement
  • Collaborate with the LCC library to assist in the scheduling of proctoring for RISE placement tests
  • Coordinate with Arts and Sciences Division and the Transitional and Career Studies Department to determine math and English transition course needs each semester 
  • Keep Arts and Sciences Division leadership abreast of any noted issues on a day-to-day basis
  • Work with the Director of Student Success and Equity to assess CCP/CTE changes and their impact on RISE placement
  • Coordinate with deans and chairs to deliver enrollment projections and student transition information for math and English gateway courses
  • Coordinate with advisors to register students in transition courses
  • Assist high schools and serve as point of contact when needed for implementation of CCRGAP
  • Provide training, as needed, to faculty and staff informing them of updates to RISE and CCRGAP
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day issues with Transition students and instructors
  • Remain current in any changes to RISE at the state level, and inform necessary stakeholders
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Tutorial Lab Duties:

  • Responsible for the overall planning, recruitment, staffing, training, supervision, and evaluation of tutors 
  • Under the division leadership supervision, oversee the open computer lab and provide regular ongoing assistance to related faculty and staff 
  • Oversee submission and approval of student-tutor attendance reports 
  • Supervise academic tutorial sessions and monitor the appointments 
  • May coordinate or provide individual test proctoring - informing students of instructor directions; proctoring tests, examinations, and quizzes; and logging students in and out for test proctoring during the regular workday, for RISE Placement Testing, when the LCC library is not an available option for the student
  • Assist the division leadership with preparation and administration budgets governing the Tutorial Lab 
  • Maintain contact with marketing, curriculum faculty, student governance, and other resources to publicize the capability and operating hours of the Tutorial Lab as needed 
  • Develop reports regarding tutorial usage, ensuring compliance with audits
  • Introduce tutors to student clients, easing frustrations of student clients by facilitating learning, mediating between student clients and tutors, and assisting them with problem solving, and providing student clients with general study and test-taking skills and techniques 
  • Supervise the hiring and training of all student tutors and professional tutors
  • Oversee the recruitment of tutors by developing relationships with various college departments 
  • Organize tutorial assignments for drop-in tutors as well as review sessions and group tutorials 
  • Manage the tutorial database 
  • Attend professional development as needed to remain current in tutoring educational trends 
  • Be involved in professional organizations related to higher education tutoring 
  • Attend professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops as needed 
  • Learn and use technology to enhance tutoring and the educational experience
  • Actively promote the Tutorial Lab through social media, print media, email, etc.

Support of College Policies and Procedures

  • Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students' advisement and consultation
  • Maintain an open environment in the Tutorial Lab during hours in which students may be on campus
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information 
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources 
  • Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual

Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities

  • Serve on college committees as assigned 
  • Participate in meetings and events as required 
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information 
  • Support both part-time and full-time colleagues 
  • Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes 
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies 
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member
