Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- One-year of experience in industry related career development, business, industry, labor, coordinator of work-based learning, career/academic advising, teaching, and/or school counseling. All related experience must have been within the past five years.
- Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Degree in business, counseling, psychology, social work, or education
- Two years in a high school or college setting with teaching, counseling, academic administration, or advising experience
Position Description
The Career Coach interacts with high school students, administration, academic and career technical education coordinators, teachers, school counselors, and staff to provide career/college/job information for high school students; works with students to explore career options, develop career plans, and investigate career pathway options at Martin Community College; interacts with student services personnel at the college; attends events such as job fairs, college nights, career days, faculty meetings; serves as the point of contact for prospective MCC students; works with secondary and postsecondary staff to ensure coordination of high school and college schedules that allow access to required coursework; serves as the point of contact for high school students and parents. This position will serve students in the Bertie High School.
Job Functions
- Advises students in academic, career, successful goal setting and achievement via schedule and walk-in appointments
- Participates in orientation, enrollment/registration for pending high school graduates who plan to attend Martin Community College
- Provides assistance with placement test administration
- Provides career counseling and academic advising
- Assist students with goal setting and achievement via schedule and walk-in appointments
- Early alert notifications and follow up
- Works with a culturally diverse student population
- Collaborates with the network of support systems to identify student needs, address student challenges and provide appropriate services and referral in an effort to enhance student success and retention
- Works closely with Director of High School Programs to facilitate partnership between the college and local high school
