Minimum Qualifications

A.    Academic and Professional Preparation

        1.   Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

        2.   Baccalaureate and or Master’s Degree, one of which shall be in nursing.

        3.   Two years of practice as a registered nurse in a position involving direct patient care.

Position Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and assist nursing students with skills lab to meet clinical objectives in NUR 111, 112 & 113 courses.
  2. Serve as the skills coordinator for NUR 111 labs.
  3. Assist in developing clinical activity days such as medication/Maternity boot camps with lead faculty.
  4. Assist nursing students who are practicing procedures, evaluate their work, and advise nursing faculty of laboratory performance.
  5. Monitor and maintain confidential lab student records. Track student hours, number of sessions and notes on lab activities and performance.
  6. Set up for skills lab and simulation; assist with clean up, storage of supplies and equipment to maintain a clean organized skill lab environment.
  7. Maintain a current schedule of all nursing labs and simulation.
  8. Identify and maintain current reference materials, assisting students in finding reference materials in the nursing labs.
  9. Maintain inventory of lab/simulation equipment. Ensure that laboratory equipment is up to date and reflective of current practice.
  10. Maintain inventory of lab supplies and materials. Work with lead instructors in the ordering of course supplies/equipment.
  11. Laboratory equipment is marked not for human use according to accreditation standards.
  12. Operate and maintain simulation/skills equipment, recognizing when equipment is malfunctioning. Perform preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot and repair equipment when appropriate. Maintain maintenance and repair records.
  13. Maintain relationships with vendors on updates for equipment and renewing warranties.
  14. Remain current in the areas of best practice techniques or evidenced-based practice in nursing care.
  15. Remain current in the areas of standard precautions. Ensure that safety requirements are in place and faculty and students follow safe procedures.
  16. Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
  17. Instruction may involve daytime, evening, and weekend labs as well as development of labs for delivery using distance education teaching and other informatics learning technologies. Work hours per week and schedule may vary depending upon student, lab, and clinical lab needs.
  18. Mentor part time clinical staff that have students in the lab on correct teaching of and evaluating skills competencies.
