Position Description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide oversight and leadership for community college programs that connect and engage with secondary partnerships. This includes the implementation and support for Career and Technical Education (CTE) structured pathways within Career and College Promise (CCP) including the coordination of Career and Technical Education pathways in both curriculum programs and workforce continuing education programs. This position will provide oversight for programs of study approval at both the secondary and postsecondary level, including Career and Technical Education Pathways in Career and College Promise.  This position will also be responsible for the correspondence and the preparation of State Board items related to Career and College Promise reports in collaboration with the Director of Academic Programs. This position will develop a working knowledge of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 as amended by the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V Act) so that technical assistance and professional development opportunities can be incorporated in the work with colleges and secondary partners. This position will engage and collaborate with internal and external partners to increase access and equity for programs and services available to secondary students interested in postsecondary opportunities in Career and Technical Education programs in North Carolina.

  • Knowledge of effective customer service techniques and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the community college mission, particularly as it relates to enrollment, student engagement and workforce development
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete work requirements with effective problem-solving techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain complex rules and regulations and/or respond to routine inquiries regarding Career and College Promise
  • Knowledge of regulations and laws related to Career and College Promise and Perkins V Act
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Must be able to understand program goals and objectives and see relationship between those goals as it pertains to budgeting
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and related software
  • Experience working with grant-funded programs or projects with deliverables and oversite.   
  • Working knowledge of USDOL Federal Job Training or/and USDOE CTE Programs and its relationship to secondary and postsecondary institutions
  • Interpreting state and federal laws
  • Website maintenance skills, including the System learning management system
  • Database experience
  • Technical writing and editing

PREFERENCES: Experience working as a Career and College Promise Coordinator/Director.
