  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A certificate from an accredited driving program or specialized training at the level required to meet professional preparation of the assigned area of instruction.
  • For Truck Driver Training faculty; Class A CDL with Tanker and Doubles endorsements.
  • Valid NC driver’s license with driving record that is within the parameters set by the college 

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Five years of over the road (OTR) experience required.  

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • One or more years of experience in an instructional setting as a tutor or teacher are preferred.

Position Description

Position Description

CFCC’s Truck Driver Training program teaches proper driving procedures, safe driver responsibility, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles and practices for operating commercial vehicles. The program also administers CDL (commercial driver’s license) testing to the students. Instructors will provide instruction in motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection. Instructors will use highway driving, training range exercises, and classroom lectures to develop the student’s knowledge and skills.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from the Director of Workforce Development and technical supervision from the Truck Driver Training Program Director
  • Exercises no supervision

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, also enter grading and attendance information in Web Advisor within deadlines.
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
  • Maintain a lab area that is safe and clean.
  • Follow all OSHA rules regarding a safe workplace.
  • Demonstrate competencies regarding the handling of hazardous waste materials.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

 

Qualifications

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • 25 hours per week with position located at the Safety Center on the North Campus
