Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related with 18 graduate hours in criminal justice.
  • All degrees should be from appropriately accredited institutions.  
  • (Applicants not qualified to teach college-level coursework will not be considered).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in a community college setting; distance education experience; work experience in the Criminal Justice field that includes criminal investigations, corrections, probation/parole or a closely related discipline.

The purpose of the Department Chair at the Central Carolina Community College, in addition to teaching, is the administration of all the programs in the department.  This is accomplished through continuous evaluation and revision of course objectives, course outlines, course competencies, course descriptions, teaching strategies, in the specific curriculum to ascertain that they are appropriate and relevant as well as the management of personnel and resources.
 

Salary depends on education and experience.

Essential Duties

  1. Teach 12-15 contact hours per semester.
  2. Ensure that program outcomes and student learning outcomes are developed for each program and all courses in the department.
  3. Ensure quality and consistent instruction to all departmental students on all campuses.
  4. Prepare proficiency exams as applicable and establish a plan for administering all proficiency exams.
  5. Develop, implement, and maintain an effective departmental advising system.
  6. Maintain accurate and complete records as required, submit timely reports, and ascertain that personnel being supervised do likewise.
  7. Keep the Program Director advised of all matters pertaining to the department.
  8. Evaluate and select textbooks, and prepare and submit a complete textbook order to the bookstore manager
  9. Notify supervisor when planning to be off campus during normal working hours.
  10. Design, implement, and maintain an effective recruitment plan for all areas in your department.
  11. Design and implement a plan and schedule for all registration and drop/add activities.
  12. Design and implement a plan for improving and tracking student retention for all curricula within the department.
  13. Assist, as requested, in the selection of full-time faculty for the department.
  14. Oversee/Select all part-time faculty on all sites where department courses are taught, prepare and submit part-time contracts, and prepare and submit all required supporting documents within the time frame required. 
  15. When employing part-time faculty, determine that all faculty meet the credential requirement(s) for that position.
  16. Place a written justification in an individual faculty member’s file if an emergency situation demands that that person teach a class on a temporary basis without the required qualifications.  That situation should be remedied as soon as a qualified person can be found and so noted in the file.
  17. Oversee/Supervise all part-time faculty in all areas of instruction including the     following:
    • Provide all part-time faculty with all College and instructional materials 
    • Complete all necessary employment paperwork.
    • Make arrangements for the faculty member to participate in an orientation to the College.
    • Determine part-time instructor’s office hours making sure that the times and locations are posted and distributed to the students.
    • Make proper arrangements for classes if the instructors are absent from class.
    • Share the results of the student evaluations with the instructors each term.
  18. Conduct an annual performance appraisal of all full-time department personnel.
  19. Plan and conduct regular periodic departmental meetings and file with the Program Director minutes of those meetings.
  20. Be responsible for ensuring all the Compliance Assist Assessment for all programs within the department is completed in a timely manner.
  21. Supervise and maintain an inventory of all departmental equipment, materials, and supplies.
  22. Select all departmental equipment and submit appropriate requisitions to the dean.
  23. Organize and maintain an active advisory board for all curriculums within the department with a minimum of one meeting per year and submit minutes of those meetings to the division dean/program director and document on Compliance Assist.
  24. Maintain personal contact with business, industry, and professional agencies relevant to the department.
  25. Direct the development of new curricula to meet the demands of the labor market.
  26. Schedule classes and assign faculty to include all sites where department courses are taught.
  27. Plan and implement articulation activities with public school, sister, and senior higher education colleagues as applicable.
  28. Collaborate with Continuing Education Department personnel in the development of credit for prior learning opportunities.
  29. Cooperate with Learning Resources to assure that an adequate quantity of up-to-date library books and support materials are available.
  30. Ascertain the all faculty keep their skills and knowledge current and develop new skills as demanded by the job market.
  31. Obtain a Blackboard Level I training as well as maintain a Bb course site for each course taught during the semester.
  32. Work the required 35 hours per week and post and hold the required five (5) office hours per week.
  33. Complete the five-hour staff development requirement.
  34. Submit records and forms in a timely fashion as required in the policy and procedures manual.
  35. Serve on College committees as assigned.
  36. Be responsible for and perform other such duties as may be assigned.
