Education Minimum:   Associate’s Degree 

Experience Minimum:  One (1) to three (3) years of experience in education, counseling, community outreach program, student recruitment/retention programs, or related field. 

Experience Preferred:  Three (3) to (5) years of experience in a Community College Student Services work setting.

Position Description

Summary 

The Student Outreach and Transition Specialist will aid entering students as they navigate the enrollment process at the college and will facilitate student success throughout the first year.  

 

 Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 

  • Assist new students in navigating the enrollment process including admissions, advising, financial aid, and registration of first-time students.
  • Implement outreach efforts across all communication platforms.
  • Coordinate campus visits and tours.
  • Implement First Year Experience success programming for incoming new students.
  • Support and help to lead orientation programming 
  • Provide additional support for first-year special populations and students with identified risk or need.
  • Provide success programing for first-year special populations and students with identified risk or need.
  • Meet regularly with students within special population cohorts
  • Serves as the M.E.E. (Males Excel and Elevate) Program Specialist as outlined in the NC Community College Minority Male Success Initiative funded project.
  • Provide training for campus faculty and staff in order to increase recruitment and retention efforts
  • Support outreach strategies for local K-12 schools such as regular high school visits, counselor education events, campus tours, and open house.
  • Represent the College to the off-campus community, higher education, business, industry agencies, and or individuals as assigned.
  • Train and monitor student workers assigned to the department.
  • Facilitate admissions data entry and imaging within electronic student records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with Microsoft office, professional outreach texting, and social media marketing. 

 

Language Skills

•  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

•  Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

 

Mathematical Skills

•  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  

•  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

 

Reasoning Ability

•  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

•  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
