Minimum Qualifications
N.C. Qualified Fire Instructor Level II. Five (5) years of experience as a N.C. Qualified Firefighter Instructor, Technical Rescue Instructor, Live Burn Instructor, Vehicle Extrication Instructor, Trench Rescue and Confined Space Rescue Instructor. Must be currently certified as a NC Firefighter, Driver/Operator, Technical Rescuer, and E.M.T. Must possess a valid N.C. Drivers License.
Communication, both oral and written, skills necessary. Must have expert efficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). Extensive experience, well documented in the application packet, may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a Fire or Emergency Management field of student and Level III Fire/Rescue Instructor Certification.
Position Description
Instruct Fire and Emergency Rescue Training courses as required.
Provide general classroom and lab instruction both online and in a traditional setting.
Teach face-to-face classes to include days, evenings, and weekends both on and off campus.
Incorporate latest instructional technologies in course delivery and utilize interactive learning technologies to engage students in the teaching and learning process.
Assist other instructors as needed with class instruction.
Assist other instructors in delivery of practical exercises.
Research, evaluate, and recommend revisions to training standards and requirements to ensure compliance with the highest State and Federal standards.
Support operations of Fire/Rescue Academies.
Research and determine the equipment needs of upcoming courses.
Supervise equipment maintenance and maintain written records of all maintenance required/preformed.
Register classes and process required paperwork for classes.
Answer questions regarding certification from Fire/Rescue students.
Open and close college facilities as needed.
Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and others.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct class audits to ensure FTCC and OSFM class delivery compliance.
Assist with OSFM Audit and Reaccreditation process to ensure FTCC’s Delivery Agency status.
Schedule and hold meetings with the Fire/Rescue and instructors and local Fire Department Training Officers to update on changes to OSFM, NFPA and School requirements for course delivery.
Manufacture and or develop training props used to enhance course delivery here at FTCC.
Assist with specification development for all new equipment to be used in the Fire Program.
Perform related duties as assigned for the department as a part of the administrative responsibilities for teaching faculty, administrative staff, and/or other operational support employees.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of organization and management.
Principles of program and course design, including a basic understanding of the NCCCS Website and its various links.
Principles of instructional methodologies and pedagogy.
Specific program/courses and subject matter related to the assigned program/concentration and departmental activities.
Familiar with rules and regulations for Local, State, and Federal training requirements as well as the certification processes to include reciprocity for Pro-Board and IFSAC (International Fire Standards and Certification Board) for Fire/Rescue members, Volunteer and Career.
Federal & State OSHA training and General Industry accepted work practices
Ability to:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Interpret and apply College policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
Operate computer software with focus on Microsoft Office to be used in lesson plan development and classroom instruction.
Physical Requirements
Walking, bending, & standing for extended periods along with the ability to lift and maneuver items relevant to the field of instruction.
Must be able to complete NC Technical Rescuer Swim Test.
