Position Description
DEFINITION:
The Director of Advancement will be an accomplished fundraising professional who focuses on both details and results and who brings demonstrated administrative and managerial experience. Working with the Vice President of Advancement and the Arts and the Foundation Board, the Director of Advancement will design and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to achieve sustained fundraising growth for the college; organize, direct, and coordinate all aspects of fundraising, and other resource development activities for the college. The Director of Advancement manages all aspects of annual and planned giving solicitations and stewardship which include, but are not limited to personal solicitation, direct mail appeals, and solicitation campaigns. The Director of Advancement will oversee general administrative (or operational) oversight of the Foundation’s programing and operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives direct supervision from the Vice President of Advancement and the Arts.
- Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Provide oversight of Foundation operations.
- Builds strategies for moving individual and corporate donors to higher giving levels and planned gifts.
- Focuses on effective communication and solicitation activities with specific donor segments identified as
having potential for the greatest impact.
- Oversees administration of tuition assistance and program support funds, with the support of the Donor Stewardship and Scholarship Coordinator.
- Oversees all alumni engagement and fundraising event activities, providing supervision of the Alumni Engagement and Outreach Coordinator.
- Develop annual communications calendar and strategy (mailed and electronic) for targeted donor groups, to include stewardship, information-sharing, and appeals.
- Assists and advises Vice President of Advancement and the Arts on all financial affairs pertaining to the Foundation in accordance with legal requirements.
- Works directly with Foundation Board members on fundraising campaign efforts.
- Maintains a high-quality stewardship process for all donors.
- Ensures that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
- Works with VP of Advancement and the Arts to oversee Foundation budgeting process, set fundraising goals, and prepare staff evaluations.
Other Important Functions:
- Has a continuous working relationship with the Vice President of Advancement and the Arts.
- Pursue professional development to keep informed on best practices in resource development field.
- Maintain up-to-date information about the College in order to make presentations to area organizations
- when needed.
- Maintain positive working relationships with College administrators, faculty, staff and students concerning
resource development functions.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of donor information.
- Attend staff meetings and support college committees as assigned.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Attend and participate in Foundation Board meetings and board committee meetings.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Strong knowledge and experience using Word, Excel and donor database software; (Raisers Edge) preferred.
- English usage including proper spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Strategic planning
- Identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and techniques of fundraising
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and individuals
- Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision
- Demonstrated record of success in generating significant donations from individuals and corporations
Ability to:
- Interact positively with donors, students, employees and alumni
- Ensure confidentiality and security of donor information.
- Utilize self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
- Communicate well, both verbally and in written form.
- Utilize organizational, interpersonal and networking skills.
