Minimum Qualifications
- A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate hours in Communication.
- Teaching experience at the high school or college level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Community college teaching experience.
Position Description
Since producing learning is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each instructional staff member to effectively and efficiently stimulate learning in every course. In addition, each instructional staff member should provide guidance to students through their role as an academic advisor and in more informal ways. Each staff member is expected to participate in the governance of the college through committees and divisional meetings, through shared leadership within and across divisions, through personal recommendations to college administrators.
Essential Duties:
- Deliver engaging instruction in the areas of introductory communication, interpersonal communication, public speaking, and other communication-related areas, as needed.
- Effectively facilitate student learning in communication courses.
- Facilitate learning for students from diverse backgrounds including culture, ethnicity, age, gender and ability.
- Provide instruction to curriculum, continuing education, workforce training or other students which may be scheduled as day, evening, weekend, or online options.
- Incorporate current knowledge and technology in the field of communication into instruction.
- Participate in public school and university articulation, advisement, and recruitment programs of the College.
- Be willing to teach in the day, evening, on Saturday, at unconventional times or via distance learning (i.e., interactive TV, telecourse, Internet) as necessary.
- Participaten in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of courses/programs to improve student learning.
- Participate in professional development activities, including those related to the use of critical thinking skills in instructional design and in student development.
- Prepare adequately for all classes assigned and conduct all classes in a professional manner.
- Develop and carry out student testing program in all classes taught that meets College policy and standards.
- Develop, maintain, and record General Education and student learning assessments and outcomes for designated communication courses.
- Maintain accurate records and reports and submit these in a timely manner to the appropriate person.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
- Participate in community service activities.
- Maintain a professional attitude toward teaching and professional relationships.
- Manage the classroom to provide an orderly and safe learning environment for all students.
- Prepare adequately for all classes assigned and conduct all classes in a professional manner.
- Function as a member of the Student Learning and Innovation team and strive to uphold the mission of the College.
