1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field;
2. Five years of full-time or equivalent progressively responsible professional experience in accounting;
3. Experience using Microsoft Excel.

2. Accounting experience in a higher education institution.
3. CPA or similar certification.
4. Experience with Governmental GAAP and GASB Standards.
5. Experience with Ellucian Colleague.
6. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
Position Description
Job Description Summary;
The Assistant Controller, reporting to the Controller, assists with oversight of the College’s accounting system and fiscal practices. This position performs highly specialized analysis and interpretation of fiscal information. The work performed is highly complex, guides management decision making processes through recording, classifying, examining, analyzing and interpreting fiscal data and financial transactions.
Duties;
1. Prepares and updates financial and statistical reports; gathers and organizes data used in the preparation of special reports; prepares reports as required.
2. Assists the Controller with State budget preparation and control. Prepares annual original budget entries, monitor budgets monthly and approve budget transfers. Prepares financial reports for categorical funds including Customized Training, BioNetwork, CTE, and the Small Business Center to ensure compliance with established guidelines and periodic reporting.
3. Performs an annual assessment of internal control over financial reporting and compliance for the College in accordance with N.C. Enhancing Accountability in Government through Leadership and Education program.
4. Assists with monthly and year-end close processes and preparation of annual financial statements and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report including preparation of complex schedules and accrual entries to ensure accurate and complete financial reports.
5. Assists departmental personnel with budget/accounting questions, proper expenditure coding, document processing and other accounting related activities.
6. Reviews and approves various transactions. Certifies and posts monthly cash for System Office and monitor cash balance. Prepares check requests, journal entries, and budget entries as needed.
7. Assists with the review, evaluation, and recommendation of improvements to the College’s accounting and financial internal control systems.
8. Provides training and support to all critical functions of the business office.
9. Assists with establishing agency level fiscal policies and procedures.
10. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
11. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
