Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; coursework in education or counseling related field preferred.

 

Minimum Experience:

 

  • Experience in teaching, counseling and/or advising at a secondary or post-secondary level or administrative experience in a student-centered office preferred.

 

License or Certificate:

  • Teaching or Counseling Certificate recommended or ability to obtain Adult Education Credential.

Position Description

DEFINITION

 

Provide current and potential students with information regarding secondary and post-secondary education, career pathways, and local and regional employability opportunities. Offer continued support for Academic and Career Readiness students who enter the ACR programs then transition into post-secondary training or the workforce. Participate in recruitment and promotion activities for Economic and Workforce Development and Academic and Career Readiness.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • Receives supervision from the Career Services Coordinator
  • Exercises no supervision

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS--Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty, staff and local and state agencies; provide detailed information and give directions.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of the college’s financial aid process, degree auditing and placement testing procedures and deadlines.
  • Work closely with Admissions staff, Career and Testing Services, and Financial Aid Advisors to make sure students complete, meet and exceed all admissions and placement requirements.
  • Provide assistance to students with class registration in CU classes.
  • Maintain transition advising records and document student outcomes.
  • Generate ideas for and participate in recruitment and publicity activities.
  • Collaborate with other department staff to increase student retention and transition.
  • Schedule assemblies, workshops and information sessions; recruit guest speakers and collaborate with other intercollegiate departments to provide information regarding academic programs, job training and job skills.
  • Assist program coordinators to train the instructional staff on transition opportunities, and incorporating job training and soft skills in the classroom.
  • Visit classes on and off campus and program orientations to share information regarding admissions, program offerings, financial aid, major selection and other aspects of the transition process.
  • Maintain information regarding local and regional hiring events.
  • Provide support to Career Services programs through recruiting practices and assist students with the registration process for Career Services classes.
  • Coordinate graduation exercises with college staff along with the department; provide graduation information to HSE/AHS graduates.

 

Other Important Functions:

  • Assist faculty, administrative staff, and students with various support tasks including accessing computerized information.
  • Assist with student registration processes, in person, on FundFive, and on Web Advisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Curriculum and Continuing Education processes and procedures as well as general college policies and procedures.
  • Maintain department’s program information, handouts, schedules, and catalog.
  • Maintain department’s webpage and social networking sites.
  • Collaborate with Coordinators to publicize student and staff recognitions and accomplishments.
  • Participate on various college committees and other institutional activities.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to establish and foster a student support network.
  • Plan and participate in professional development activities on and off campus.
  • Provide direct support to the Director of Academic and Career Readiness and Career Services Coordinator for programming and events.
  • Assist other program coordinators as needed.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • The College admissions process, student registration, completion of the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and placement procedures.
  • Adult Education programs.
  • Local and regional employment trends and community employment agencies.
  • Curriculum and Economic and Workforce Development (EWD) program offerings.
  • Customer Service skills and principles.
  • Microsoft Office, Ellucian or other data entry system.

Ability to:

 

  • Provide clear and concise information to the public, other college departments, government agencies, organizations and businesses.
  • Meet with students individually to establish a relationship of trust.
  • Present to small or large groups of current or potential students.
  • Provide as much aid to students as possible while being motivating and encouraging.
  • Maintain patience and determination while following up with students.
  • Accommodate flexible work hours and travel to off-campus locations.
  • Maintain compliance records for college and state requirements.
  • Read and comprehend grants and procedures required to comply with grant mandates.
  • Respond to inquires and requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and  regulations
  • Communicate clearly, and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in  the course of work
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES --Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
