Position Description
Essential Functions
The Manager of Grants Development is responsible for securing external funds through formal grant proposals from federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the private sector.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Understanding of the role of a community college in the workforce and economic development.
2. Knowledge of grant design, proposal preparation, and submission.
3. Demonstrated grant success with governmental agencies and private foundations.
4. Successful experience working on cross-functional teams and developing programs and partnerships.
5. Excellent verbal communication and persuasive writing skills.
6. Strong planning, organizing, budgeting, and managing skills in a complex work environment.
7. Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with college faculty and staff, community members, and individuals from outside agencies.
8. Demonstrated data analysis and evaluation skills.
9. Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications and web-based grant research and submission methods.
10. Demonstrated organizational skills, and ability to schedule, prioritize, and finalize activities to meet grant deadlines.
Job Duties
1. Establish policies and procedures for effective grant management and proposal development and oversee implementation throughout the college.
2. Research and identify funding opportunities available through local, state, and federal agencies, and through private and corporate foundations.
3. Project needs for the college in collaboration with the President, Vice Presidents, and program Deans and matches them to the appropriate funding source.
4. Evaluate requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine funding probability and potential impact on college resources.
5. Disseminate information to appropriate college employees and community partners about potential grant opportunities and convene meetings as needed.
6. Develop, write, and coordinate proposals and related documents required for grant submissions and submit them in a timely manner according to guidelines.
7. Facilitate, edit, and support proposals written by other college employees.
8. Gather statistical and background information and develop supportive narrative statements and demographic data for grant proposals and external funding applications.
9. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with potential and current funding sources to ensure appropriate consideration of grant proposals.
10. Develop and maintain resources and timetables to assist directors of grant-funded projects to document the attainment of project objectives, and generate and submitting required reports.
11. Offer workshops for college employees to increase familiarity with the grant-seeking and award process.
12. Guide reporting needs for grants with the Foundation Accountant and others in the Business Office to ensure and monitor adherence to grant award conditions.
13. Facilitate annual mini-grant program with Board and committee volunteers and applicants to ensure timely and appropriate submissions and reporting.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
