Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  •  At least two years of community health and/or social services practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching adult learners at a community college level. 
  • Certified as a Community Health Worker in the state of North Carolina.

Position Description

In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Community Health Worker Instructor reports to the Occupational Healthcare Coordinator and is responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching the course.

Essential Duties:

  • Assigned to teach classes which may include day, evening or on-line instructional assignments.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for students.
  • Provide instruction that reflects varied learning styles to diverse students.
  • Select appropriate materials for the instructional environment.
  • Maintain an adequate environment for instruction, including the physical environment and the supply of materials.
  • Provide feedback to students regarding course progression.
  • Maintain organized student class records, which show student academic performance, progress, and contact hours.
  • Complete all reports and other documents related to the instruction of the course.
  • Support FTE growth by developing and implementing innovative techniques to retain students until educational goals are attained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Occupational Healthcare Coordinator.

Physical Demands:

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
