Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in related field with one (1) to three (3) years of practical work experience in the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration; Electrical/Electronics of Skilled trades both residential and industrial experience and equivalent combination teaching experience minimum of a two-year post-secondary degree in a vocational or trades education program or the equivalent experience in an industry, skilled trades or advanced-manufacturing. Candidate must be a dependable, dedicated professional and highly motivated self-starter. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and proficiency with computer software and learning management systems. Must hold a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Ability to present a professional teaching presence for theory and practical skills to develop rapport with students, faculty and workforce industry partners. This person must have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include day and evening hours on occasions.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field with three (3) to five (5) years of practical work experience listed above. Vocational Faculty Work-based Learning and Apprenticeship Coordinator must demonstrate competence in subject matter and be dedicated to adult and community college education. Must hold Environmental Protection Agency’s 608 Certificate, OSHA Certifications, NATE or NCCER certification or other nationally recognized credential. Bilingual a plus.
Position Description
General Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Career and Technical Education and the Dean of Curriculum Programs in collaboration with the Associate VP of Workforce Development and in accordance with the overall plan of the College, the Vocational Faculty and Work-based Learning and Apprenticeship Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, processing, verification, and record keeping for all work-based learning and apprenticeships within the vocational department. This position will serve as a faculty position which will also be responsible for provide effective learning conditions for all students through the design, planning, organization, execution, and evaluation of student performance in assigned areas, curriculum courses, classes or programs.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assist in development of curriculum in vocational program courses.
- Conduct instruction in various vocational department courses.
- Recruit vocational students for work-based learning.
- Provide orientation for all students enrolled work-based learning and ensure completion of documentation for reporting purposes.
- Serve as the coordinator of the college’s apprenticeship programs including pre-apprenticeships.
- Maintain contact with all industry partners to ensure the program standards are met and any new apprenticeship hiring needs are being addressed.
- Assist Continuing Education and Curriculum programs to ensure the program standards are met.
- Work with industry partners to increase work-based learning and apprenticeship offerings and programs.
- Complete work-based learning job visitations as required by MTCC Policy and NC Community College System Standards.
- Maintain student files, in compliance with WBL (Section 20) Curriculum Procedures Reference Manual and 1D SBCCC 300.10
- Advise vocational students participating in work-based learning and/or apprenticeships.
- Attend professional meetings, conferences and workshops to maintain professional knowledge and skills and to create collaboration efforts through networking.
- Serve and participate in committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
