Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a certificate, diploma, or Associate degree in Cosmetology, current/Valid NC Cosmetology License, current/Valid NC Cosmetology Instructor Teachers License, and five years of cosmetology experience is required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
CEUs and/or advanced education and community college Instructor experience in Cosmetology is preferred.
Position Description
Under the direction of the Special Projects Coordinator, performs professional level instructional duties in the development, organization, and delivery of the cosmetology program.
Essential Duties: Provides instruction that fulfills the requirements of the NC State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners and the North Carolina Community College System for Cosmetology courses. Maintain knowledge of NCSB cosmetology curriculum, 21 NCAC Subchapter 14 H and T, GS Chapter 88B relative to infection control, school requirements and scope of practice. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students. Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, professional organizations, and professional meetings, conferences, or workshops. Ensure course content is up-to-date, relevant, accurate, and consistent with state and national accreditation standards. Completes and maintains accurate student grades, attendance and performance records. Update, communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance. Contribute to the selection, development of instructional materials to meet course objectives. Develop, update, and share course syllabi in a timely manner. Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable. Evaluate student performance using cosmetology rubrics. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience. Monitors inventory of supplies; maintains and teaches safety and sanitation measures to meet North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners requirements. Establishes positive rapport and effective communication with cosmetology coordinator, clients, peers and students. Follows the appropriate chain of supervision, while demonstrating professionalism at all times. Maintain documentation of professional development and continuing education required by the NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts. Serves on Institutional Committees as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Knowledge of: Comprehensive knowledge of cosmetology concepts, practices, techniques, licensing, and continuing education requirements. Course design and organization, including development of lesson plans and course outlines and knowledge of teaching methods. Principles and practices of PC’s and related software. Adult education theories and practices. Organizational and planning skills to coordinate a variety of courses and activities. Ability to: Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software. Coordinate a variety of courses and activities simultaneously. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, students, and the general public.
