Education Minimum:   Associate degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, industrial systems, engineering or any related field. 

Experience Minimum:  One-year of experience in the biotechnical or pharmaceutical industry or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Position Description

Summary 
Serves as biotechnology industry liaison to develop and teach related curricula.  Serves as instructor for the training programs associated with the Biotechnology department including BioWork, Corporate and Customized training and Bioprocess Technology courses and any corresponding labs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with customized training to develop course material and provide training specifically for the biotech industry in the region. 
  • Instructs courses in the biotechnology department. 
  • Prepares lab activities and instructor demonstrations. 
  • Tutors students who are having difficulty with the material in the biotechnology programs. 
  • Handles student issues, including make-up tests, retests, attendance issues, etc. 
  • Assists students and potential students with questions and inquiries about the programs. 
  • Assists in marketing, tracking, and retaining students within the biotechnology program.
  • Cleans and maintains labs, materials, and equipment.
  • Works with part-time faculty to ensure proper lab materials and set-up are available. 
  • Serves on internal and external committees as requested. 
  • Participates in professional organizations and associations. 
  • Maintains personal certifications and stays up-to-date on the latest advancements in biotechnology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to communicate verbal and written lessons and instructions to students both online and in the classroom.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and contribute to a positive team environment.

 Mathematical Skills                                                      

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.   
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to solve basic algebra equations.
  • Understanding of the metric system. 

 Reasoning Ability                                              

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 Computer Skills                                                

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint.
