Position Description
DEFINITION:
The Instructional Design Technologist supports faculty and student success in the effective use of relevant and engaging instructional technologies. This support involves working with instructors in the following capacities: teaching and implementing basic and advanced relevant and current instructional technologies either one-on-one or in large groups; creating web-based tutorials and other resources; one-on-one troubleshooting, advising departments and individuals on the proper use of technology and tools; ensuring courses/course materials are ADA Compliant; and the teaching of workshops. The Instructional Design Technologist collaborates with the Instructional Support and Design Coordinator to evaluate, recommend, and promote instructional technologies and course design that meets learning needs and promotes student learning and success.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives direction from Instructional Support and Design Coordinator
- Receives supervision from the Vice President of Academic Affairs
- Exercises no supervision
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts to implement instructional technologies to promote student success and engagement
- Collaborate with Instructional Support and Design Coordinator in the development of quality, accessible online courses, materials, and technologies
- Communicate clearly and efficiently with instructors
- Assist faculty with meeting and maintaining UND Standards as needed
- Collaborate with faculty in ensuring ADA Compliance training and standards for instructional materials in courses
- Design, develop, and implement technology workshops, web-based tutorials, and various instructional materials and resources for instructors
- Troubleshoot and resolve instructor questions and issues about instructional uses of Learning Management Systems (currently Blackboard), and other technologies and tools
- Advise instructors on the appropriate instructional uses of tools
- Contribute to quality control initiatives targeting face-to-face and online instruction
- Collect, analyze, and report data relating to instructional design and instructional technology use
Other Important Functions:
- Maintain working knowledge of current Instructional Design Technology programs
- Maintain current knowledge of ADA compliance guidelines and requirements as they relate to instruction
- Research, analyze, and evaluate new instructional tools and technologies for potential adoption
- Promote the implementation of adopted instructional tools
- Assist Instructional Support and Design Coordinator in identifying institutional needs in relation to course design
- Identify institutional needs in relation to tool and technology use
- Assist in planning and recommending equipment selection and design for instructional needs.
- Initiate, plan, and implement ideas for instructional improvement
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Current instructional technologies including theories, principles, methodologies, and applications for higher education, as well as learning theories
- Current trends and developments in instructional technology and tools
- Statistical reporting and recordkeeping
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Model and teach instructional technology programs that will enhance student success
- Model and teach effective and innovative uses of instructional technology for instructors
- Communicate effectively and respectfully, orally and in writing
- Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills
- Collaborate with the Instructional Support and Design Coordinator to identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes
- Quickly learn new software in detail; teach the use of the software to others; prepare software use documents as needed
- Work well independently
- Teach one-on-one and large groups equally effectively
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
