Position Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Food and Nutrition Services – Employment & Training (FNS E&T) Education Navigator. Essential Functions are to provide support services to individuals who qualify for the Food and Nutrition Services – Employment & Training (FNS E&T) Program under the guidelines of the Department of Social Services (DSS) of Orange County. To develop best practices in collaborating with DSS in order to strengthen the ability to serve FNS E&T participants, meet with students to guide program selection, create career pathways, and assist students facing challenges along the way. To help identify, assist and manage training opportunities for students regarding short-term and certificate training, degree and pathway programs. To provide effective case management of all FNS E&T students enrolled in Durham Tech training programs, and programs of other colleges approved by DSS FNS E&T.
Examples of Duties:
- Advise FNS E&T students in the development of academic programing, career pathways, goals identification and barrier removal in education and employment.
- Schedule, coordinator and participate in meetings/events with students, DSS, program deans, coaches, workforce agencies, etc., to secure training opportunities for students.
- Perform advanced administrative duties including maintaining various committee memberships and minutes in line with promoting FNS E&T.
- Work with other Center Directors to help analyze programs and engagement practices and make suggestions as to appropriate course of action and new initiatives impacting student opportunities for training and work experience.
- Identify and connect students with internal and external resources that support student goal obtainment, retention, and completion of educational programs.
- Work closely with Center Directors, students, program deans, directors, instructors, coaches, counselors, etc., to identify best fit work experience opportunity for students.
- Work collaboratively to market and activity promote the FNS E&T programs through the utilization of personal contacts, news media, electronic networks, brochures, and other opportunities for generating public and agency awareness.
- Identify, develop and instruct in training programs and workshop events to promote student learning and position students for greater opportunities of employment.
- Work collaboratively with Center Directors to help schedule and participate in career/job fairs, organizing and notifying students, program deans, employers, and other external agencies.
- Create and maintain documentation and database to support accurate tracking of grant expenses and program funding, ensuring all reporting requirements are met.
- Complete required reports for DSS and NC Community College System ensuring delivery by target date.
- Prepare correspondence and spreadsheets, Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) as needed, for the Center.
- Order and maintain office supplies and requisition requests via e-procurement and p-card purchases for the department.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Executive Director, Chief of Staff or President.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree or higher in a related field.
Work Experience:

Normal Working Hours:
A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-day work weeks.
