Position Description
Position Title: ESL Lead Instructor/Coordinator (English as a Second Language, Integrate English Literacy and Civics Education-IELCE)
General Description: The Adult Education ESL Lead Instructor, under the authority of the Dean of Adult Education is responsible for developing, implementing, instructing, and coordinating English as a Second Language classes and IELCE programs that will result in students achieving academic success. The ESL Lead Instructor/Coordinator’s responsibilities include providing instruction to English language learners, mentoring adjunct instructors, assisting with the development of new program pathways (IELCE) and related courses. This person will also assist with student recruitment, orientation, follow-up, and other duties as needed for the program.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Deliver effective student-centered instruction that uses a variety of instructional techniques to assist students in learning the English language.
- Assess individual learner's needs, set goals, and prescribe a plan of instructional activities to meet these goals.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible files and records, including LEIS paperwork, daily online attendance, student audit files, end-of-semester reconciliation, and other paperwork and reports as requested and in a timely manner.
- Perform and document weekly student retention activities to assist in achieving state/federal mandates.
- Provide a variety of supplementary materials and methods to enhance distance learning.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to provide day and evening class offerings, meet with students and part-time instructors to ensure quality instruction to meet students' learning needs.
- Supervise, train and support part-time ESL instructors.
- Plan and initiate class start forms, course builds in ADVANSYS, monitor student attendance and complete attendance approvals as required to maintain up-to-date course records.
- Facilitate New Student Intake and Orientation.
- Administer NRS assessments upon intake and post-testing as needed.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of NCCCS CCR policies and procedures for compliance including oversight and implementation of IELCE programs and reporting.
- Conduct recruiting and engagement with community partners to expand ESL and Civics education services in service area.
- Maintain security of instructional materials, tests, and answer keys
- Attend state and regional training for implementation at local level.
- Adhere to Richmond Community College, College and Career Readiness, and distance education policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
