Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a technology-related field from a regionally accredited institution, combined with two years of experience in either instruction or providing technical support for a learning management system; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that adequately equips one to perform the essential duties of the role.
- Demonstrated success in problem-solving, project management, and collaboration with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in instructional design/technology, educational technology, instructional systems technology, computer information technology, computer science or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Administrative or instructional experience in online instructional design; or experience managing an LMS.
- Experience in conducting quality reviews of online courses using a Quality Matters rubric or other assessment tool(s).
Position Description
Position Summary
Under limited supervision the Director of Distance Learning provides leadership for Distance Learning/Learning Management System (LMS) services, initiatives, and instructional systems support. The Director oversees development and quality of web-enhanced, hybrid, and online instruction, and provides professional development on how to effectively integrate technology in teaching and learning. Will collaborate with instructional faculty, directors, and chairs to promote best practices in instructional delivery; ensure compliance; monitor and assess the quality of Distance Education courses; and support instructional design. Exercises supervision over the LMS Assistant and other departmental staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and identify best practices in instructional technologies that will enhance instruction and student learning; attend on-going professional development to stay current in the field.
- Identify barriers to student learning/student readiness and work to implement problem-solving solutions in identifying and utilizing instructional technology.
- Assist with the development and design of quality online learning courses through innovative technology, including social and mobile media.
- Assist with the development of new online courses and the integration of online resources into traditional classroom environments.
- Identify, develop, and implement professional development opportunities related to the use of the LMS for both students and employees; maintain related records and documentation; support existing and plan, execute, and manage new online course development opportunities.
- Promote and encourage the use of effective andragogy, pedagogy, and technology in the online educational environment.
- Assist with course content creation that is ADA and SACSCOC compliant, adheres to Department of Education (DOE) Distance Education rules, and utilizes the Principles of Universal Instructional Design.
- Create innovative and engaging online training tutorials for employees and students.
- Collaborate with college personnel to make academic and educational support services equitably available to all learners; provide LMS support for college employees and students.
- Assist with MCC’s Online Standards Review design and implementation; use the MCC’s Online Standards Review, designated rubrics, and other assessment materials to conduct course and instructional materials quality assurance reviews.
- Manage LMS user and data allotment contract compliance; manage the MCC Institutional Zoom Account.
- Serve as MCC Quality Matters Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.
