Minimum Qualifications

Education:  

  • Associate degree in Nursing

Experience:

  • (1) year (2000  hours) of RN experience in the provision of long term care facility services demonstrated by:
    • Supervising or teaching students:
      • in a long term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility; or, 
      • a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital 

License(s) Required: 

  • Holds a current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with NC DHHS and DHSR rules and regulations for nurse aide training.

Position Description

Under general supervision of the Dean of Health Sciences, the Nursing Assistant Program Coordinator teaches assigned class loads and serves as faculty advisor according to the rules and procedures of the College.  The faculty member will work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including coordinating education and curriculum across a three county area; instructing courses, maintaining posted office hours, evaluating student work, preparing for the courses and fulfilling other duties as assigned.

The search will remain open until this position is filled; however, to be considered for the initial screening, candidates should submit application materials by June 2, 2019.

 

PRIMARY TASKS:

  • Teaches assigned case loads
  •  Provides classroom and course management in a manner that is consistent with professional conduct 
  • Serves as a faculty advisor and keeps regular office hours in accordance with the procedures designated by College policy, the Dean of Health Sciences and the Vice President of Instructional Services
  • Assists students outside of scheduled class times
  • Utilizes methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to the fulfillment of course outcomes and objectives
  • Furnishes all data and reports in a timely manner as may be required by the Instructional Services Division using appropriate forms and formats
  • Develops and maintains course outlines/calendars and makes them available to the students the first week of class
  • Maintains accurate class rosters (census reports and final attendance reports) and submits same in the manner and at times required by the Division Dean
  • Attends faculty and unit meetings and workshops as scheduled
  • Participates in the faculty evaluation process
  • Notifies Division Dean of any absences or alterations in the class schedule in advance and in writing, if possible
  • Carries out special assignments at the request of the Division Dean
  • Serves on at least one college committee
  • Reviews and recommends textbooks, reference materials, software, audio visual aids, and learning resources for classroom use
  • Recommends curriculum revisions and modifications to the Division Dean
  • Assists in determining budget needs for program and recommends purchases of equipment and supplies when appropriate
  • Mentors adjunct faculty or new faculty as assigned
  • Assists the Division Dean in developing semester course schedules
  • Participates in graduation, pre-registration and registration exercises, and is available for student orientations as requested
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through reading professional publications and attending workshops and conferences as appropriate
  • Has knowledge in working with students with disabilities and coordinating services with appropriate college staff

Coordinator Duties

  • Supervises full-time and part-time faculty within the respective program
  • Submits program goals and objectives
  • Selects physical and affiliating clinical facilities
  • Recommends purchases of program supplies and equipment
  • Reviews and recommends library selections, periodical holding and technological resources
  • Assists in promoting program through personal communications and College news media
  • Prepares necessary materials for regulatory agencies
  • Assists in follow-up survey of graduates and alumni
  • Prepares clinical rotation of students
  • Attends and participates in community and institutional activities
  • Provides for program evaluation and changes as necessary for program
  • Maintains professional and teaching competencies through continuing education
  • Prepares, with assistance, guidelines for admission and completion
  • Maintains familiarity with standards and requirements of accrediting agencies, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and North Carolina Community College System.
