Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Nursing with an unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two full years of clinical experience is required. Two years of full-time experience teaching in postsecondary nursing education is required. Preparation in teaching and learning principles including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, or with a willingness to seek continuing education as required by the NC Board of Nursing upon employment is required. The Department Chair must have good oral and written communication skills, be proficient with commonly used computer software, and be organized. The Chair must have knowledge of the national accreditation process.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a lead instructor and course coordinator or some aspect of leadership is preferred. Bilingual is preferred.

Position Description

This position provides leadership and management of the associate degree and practical nursing programs including curricula/program development; compliance and evaluation of the program; budgeting and procurement of financial and clinical resources and the planning and accountability of the program. In addition to instructing students, the Chair will supervise student admission, progression, and graduation. The duties also include the recruitment and supervision of faculty in the Nursing Department, overseeing marketing and public relations, and coordinating with the Division Dean of Allied Health and Public Services for departmental operations. The Chair must demonstrate a commitment to creating a culture that encourages excellence, professional development, continued competence in areas of responsibility, and an understanding of the diverse backgrounds of students and employees.
