Position Description
POSITION
Nursing Faculty, Full Time (9-months)
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Primary responsibility will be as a nursing instructor in the health care programs area and will include advising students, serving on institutional committees, and performing other related work commensurate with faculty status. Assignments will include teaching/facilitating lecture/lab/clinic and assessing student progress in achieving theory and performance requirements of the program. Nursing faculty who teach in a program leading to initial licensure as a nurse shall, prior to or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment; maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility; and have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse. Teaching assignments may be at either the New Bern or Havelock campus and may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses. Clinical assignments will be at off-site locations.

SALARY/BENEFITS
- Hiring range is $49,000 - $54,000
- Benefits include paid holidays, sick leave, medical insurance, and participation in the N.C. State Retirement System.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Student Learning:
A full-time faculty member is responsible for creating an environment that maximizes student opportunities for academic success by:
- setting high and challenging academic standards to enhance student educational merit and scholastic performance;
- planning and managing, as applicable course delivery method and expected student learning outcomes;
- using multiple instructional delivery methods such as lectures, presentations, lab sessions, clinical, and cooperative arrangements, distance education classes, and directed study;
- incorporating various learning assessments such as observations, objective and subjective measurements, and other methods;
- recognizing the dignity, worth, and potential of all students to encourage a diverse learning environment;

Professional Development
A full-time faculty member is responsible for continuously updating and enhancing knowledge within his or her discipline and in pedagogical expertise. This is accomplished by annually preparing/updating and discussing professional growth and development goals with supervisor in support of the college’s strategic goals and identifying and recommending professional development needs and opportunities.
College Service
A full-time faculty member is responsible for providing service to Craven Community College and its institutional stakeholders such as serving as an academic advisor, mentoring other full-time and/or part-time faculty, serving as faculty advisor to student clubs and organizations, providing teaching sessions for the Center for Teaching and Learning, volunteering in the Academic Skills Center, actively participating in college standing committees and/or task forces as elected or assigned, participating in college sponsored recruitment, community outreach and development activities.
Craven Community College
FULL-TIME FACULTY WORKLOAD
Full-time faculty shall be expected to be on campus for a minimum of 30 hours of scheduled professional workweek, with an overall commitment of 40 hours per week.

Full-time faculty in the liberal arts, business, education, criminal justice, information technology, and nursing disciplines shall normally assume an 18-20 instructional contact hour faculty workload per semester, or 36-40 instructional contact hours per academic year.

Full-time faculty in industrial transportation, physical education/health, and Allied Health disciplines shall normally assume a 21-24 instructional contact hour faculty workload per semester or 42-48 instructional contact hours per academic year.
