The position requires a current valid, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) license to practice within the state of North Carolina. Nursing faculty who teach in a program leading to initial licensure as a nurse shall : ( 1 ) hold a master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution or obtain a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution with in five years of initial full-time employment; (2) have two years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse. Prior to or within the first three yea rs of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. This preparation may be demonstrated by one of the following:
A. Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses;
B. Completion of a certificate program in nursing education; C. Nine semester hours of education course work;
D. National certification in nursing education; or
E. Documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Criteria for approval include content in the faculty role within the curriculum implementation, objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population and expectations of student and faculty performance.
Two years or the equivalent of full time clinical experience as a registered nurse. Willingness to work flexible work schedules including evenings as needed; teach in a diverse mode of traditional instructions; and integrate technology into the course as appropriate based on demand.
The position entails teaching pre-licensure nursing students and participation in curriculum implementation and evaluation. The Instructor shall possess competency of nursing skills and an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its "open door" policy. Instructor must possess excellent communication skill s (verbal and written) and be able to engage community college students with diverse backgrounds in the clinical/lab setting.
