Minimum Qualifications

BSN is required.  Candidates with a BSN will be required to complete a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution within 5 years of hire.. Current unrestricted North Carolina Registered Nursing license or a valid, current multi-state license from a Nurse Licensure Compact state to practice nursing in North Carolina (NC) is required.  Two (2) years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a Registered Nurse with an unencumbered license is required.

*NOTE: In accordance with NCBON Educational Rule 21 NCAC 36 .0318 FACULTY "prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment."

Preferred Qualifications

MSN is preferred.  Teaching experience is preferred. 

Position Description

Essential DutiesDevelops, plans and conducts simulation lab experiences.  Ensures that the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practices are utilized.  Serves as a clinical instructor in the clinical setting.  Maintains professional licensure/certifications.  Administers student evaluations of simulation lab experiences and provide feedback within assigned roles through debriefing efforts.  Manages interdepartmental schedules and calendars for the Virtual Medical Center (VMC).   Orders and maintains inventory of lab supplies and instructional materials for the VMC to meet program and course objectives.  Manages and operates the VMC including performing hardware and software upgrades, ensuring the security of equipment, troubleshooting equipment failure, consulting for technical support, repairing simulation equipment per manufacturers specifications, overseeing scheduled maintenance, and recommending equipment purchases to Dean.  Completes and maintains accurate student grades, attendance, and performance records.  Updates, communicates, and follows course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.  Contributes to the selection, development of instructional materials to meet course objectives.  Educates and trains departmental faculty on professional and technical processes related to simulation and labs.   Participates in professional development.  Participates in Program Review process for assigned programs.  Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to advising, recruiting, serving on committees, and participating in college activities.

Qualifications:  Knowledge of:  Principles and practices of PC’s and related software.  Assigned course content, resources in the assigned field, and methods of teaching assigned courses.  Adult education theories and practices.  Program area assigned.   Needs assessments and evaluation of courses and activities.   Organizational, planning, and administrative skills to coordinate a variety of courses, workshops, and activities for organizations and students.  Ability to:   Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  Operate a PC and related software.  Communicate and explain courses offered in program areas assigned.   Understand and coordinate training efforts with a wide range of organizations and special populations.  Coordinate a variety of courses and activities simultaneously.  Plan, organize, and teach  a variety of courses and activities.  Enforce and follow rules and regulations of the College and Board of Nursing requirements.  Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, public agencies, businesses, and the general public.
